Hello All,

Just recently built a new rig with a ASUS P67Pro model mobo. And I'm trying to thing of a good way to set this up in terms of sound.

I basically have a pair of Bose pc speakers plugged in the FRONT speakers spot on the motherboard. Now I'm also trying to hook up my pc to my stereo so when I'm playing music on my pc, it will go through my stereo surround sound. (not at the same time)

I have a wire that I used to plug into my laptop headphone spot that converts to standard rca plugs (red and white) that would hook right into my stereo.

Problem is if I am using the output on the mobo to goto the pc speakers... how can I also have the option of the music going through the stereo, since I do not see another OUTPUT line on the pc.

suggestions guys???

I've seen this question asked numerous times, and I'm pretty certain what you are experiencing is By Design. That front port is not for speakers, it's for headphones...and the designed experience is that when the headphones get plugged in, the external speaker output gets killed.

In other words, unplug the Bose, and the music will route to the stereo.

Yeah - usually the headphone speaker ports have a mechanical shunt switch. Then the headphone minijack is plugged in, the switch simply shorts out the other speakers.

You SHOULD be able to set your sound card/software so that the front panel jack (headphones) doesn't disconnect your rear speakers.
I have an ASUS P55D-E Pro board and it's an option for my board.

In the Via HD Audio Deck, Speaker section, look for the "tools" icon at the bottom...you'll find the necessary settings inside the "advanced options" to (1) enable front jack detection, and (2) change the "mute speakers when headphones are plugged in" option.

THANKS, i'll check this out... someone also suggested a splitter in the back

You can do that. I have a splitter with mine. One leg runs my computer speaker set...the other feeds to a small Yamaha bookcase stereo. Makes for better music listening.
