I'm a major music lover. I have a collection of MP3s that grows larger everyday. I run a pair of Klipsch ProMedia 4.1s hooked up to an SBLive Value running the latest drivers from Creative's website. For some reason when I listen to my music with winamp the songs skip around by about 1 second. The problem seems to be VERY random, so far I have not been able to find what causes it. The annoying thing is that I have not experienced this problem with win98SE, which was my previous OS before win2k. Am I doing something wrong here? This is driving me nuts and it's totally ruined the fun of listening to my music.

You may want to do a search on this because you will find A LOT of people that are having the same problem. Your definately not alone. There are a few work arounds that you'll find if you run a search.

Lately it seems like people are finally fed up (including me) and are switching to other sound cards.

If a lot of people are going to different sound cards does this mean that is it a problem related to creative? I just figured I was having these problems because of win2k. I'm just taking a shot in the dark here, but I have read numerous times that the SBLive doesn't like to share IRQs. Win2k puts everything on IRQ9. Perhaps the sblive isn't getting along well with my video card, network card, etc. Am I close?

The problem is with the SBLive!/W2k combo. Changing either of these is a possible solution.

From what I've read here on these boards, all the people that have tried to disable the W2K ACPI to get the SBLive! it's own IRQ, have not fixed the problem.

Most people end up moving the hardware acceleration slider down a notch or two (thus loosing EAX and possibly Direct Sound) or replacing the card.

Creative has know about this problem since W2K came out and they've done nothing. Rumor has it that it's because they can't, that the SBLive! has a hardware problem that will prevent it from ever working properly with W2K.

Again, a quick search will give you all the details. This topic has been covered extensively.
