Sound problem, HELP!

i have a pretty big problem on my hands, when i listen to mp3's, play games, like counter-strike, or even listen to cd's, the sound is all distorted and sounds wierd.
I just installed win98, after getting rid of win2k, and then this started.win2k had no problems with it. it's built into my amptron k7-m807 mobo.
any ideas?

I assume you are having the regular via ac-97 onboard sound? if you do use these drivers:via 108 drivers. It's a 18 mb file, but includes drivers for 9X (and me), 2000, nt, linux etc. I have found out that these drivers workes alot better than the 111b,c and 120a. Please let me know how it went if you are going to try them

sounds like an IRQ conflict, somebody prolly stepped on the onboard sounds IRQ. try shuffling them around and see what happens. did you move any cards around? why did you ditch W2K?

Ill get those drivers now, thx. i ditched win2k because i have a radeon le (@195/195) the perormance is poor. And yes, i did move my pci dsl modem to a dif. pci port. could that be a problem?
