Sound issues...

I'm having problems with my sound, specifically with mp3's. I'll be playing an mp3, and it will be all fine, but as soon as I get too many applications going at once (say, photoshop, one instance of Explorer, and 3 instances of IE), the mp3 randomly "freezes" on a note, so it just gets stuck buzzing at that note and I have to mute my speakers so I don't drive myself crazy. I then have to kill the winamp.exe process and cut back on the number of programs I am using in order to play another mp3.

So it seems as if this problem is related to how many other programs I have open on my computer, which means it is related to memory--either my RAM or my VM. I've got 1 gig of RAM, so I don't see how that could be a problem. However, I still get "Insufficient memory" pop-up boxes once in awhile when I have too many programs open, so maybe it is, in fact, that I don't have enough RAM. But this doesn't make any sense because I was able to have MORE programs open at once back when I only had like 384mb of RAM.

So my guess is that somehow, the buffer that winamp uses is getting affected with other programs open. Can anybody help?

i'm assuming you've tried all this at stock speeds on your processor right? If not you need to try that first.
If that doesn't help, then try switching from Winamp (ugh) to Windows Media player 10 and see if that causes the same issues.

I'll try it at stock speeds, but I am almost positive it has nothing to do w/ my processor being overclocked.

As far as my media player choice goes, I don't think I'll be switching any time soon. Winamp 5 just about hits perfection in my eyes, and WMP is far from that. But again, I'll test it out and see if I get the same problem.

Thanks. Any more suggestions?

EDIT: Just tried using WMP10 and it did the same thing.
EDIT2: Just realized I'm in fact not using onboard sound, but an Aureal SQ1500, in case that matters.
