Sound issues with games

I have an audigy 2 zs sound card. i have a 5.1 speaker system.

Some games, like CoD4, I have to crank up the volume or its very quiet. Soem games voices don't come through properly or are very quiet.

its not all games, just some. i have the latest drivers and i have the game settings set properly for my config.

anyone else have this issue? do i need to upgrade to a newer sound card?

Is this on Vista on a DX9 game perhaps?

If so, try and look for Creative Alchemy. Theres something to do with Vista that doesnt make 5.1 work in DX9 and Creative seem to have supported several of their card line with fixes under a software called Alchemy.

Has this been fixed? I had a curious idea as if you are Vista even in DX10, there seems to be a little problem with Vista and muting the sounds for certain games. With Hellgate London, Vista muted me by default which killed my surround sound parts of my speakers but left the stereo part active.

XP Pro
that alchemy thing says its for legacy titles. i'm having this issue with new titles.

wtf? its free for x-fi but they charge $10 for audigy users?

Vista's DX10 standard will play DX10 games fine with proper audio. DX9 under Vista will produce 2.0 sound or if you try it, it can clone via all speakers.

Win XP Pro should not have an issue with DX9 sound.

With the information provided, I assumed you had Vista and proceeded to give you an inclination of what may be the problem.

I would be of the opinion, knowing you have XP Pro, that Alchemy will not help your situation.

Hopefully someone else has an idea.

(By Legacy, I think Creative mean DX9 and earlier as Vista has cut its ties with previous DX titles with regards to sound.)
