Sound Issues... very frusterated

I searched every site on the planet and I cant find a solution to fix my problem, to say the least I'm getting frusterated. The problem is this: anytime there is IDE activity the sound will screech. If I listen to mp3s while defraging (I know not recommended) or doing file transfers over the network the problem occurs.

I've tried disabling all forms of accleration didnt seem to work. I also tried updating all my drivers, windows, bios as well as moving PCI cards around in every slot all on a newly formatted system. All 4in1 drivers, usb filter drivers and ide busmaster drivers by VIA are installed. I've also tried disabling every device that wasnt neccessary for operation such as network adapters and and all cd rom drives. SO... Im completely lost for ideas. Thanks in advance.

My rig:

os: windows xp w/ sp 1 (problem exists on win2k as well)

mobo: abit kr7a-raid (kt266a chipset) with athlon xp 1800

video: radeon 8500 64mb retail

sound: audigy 2

two 60gig maxtors using the onboard raid controller(highpoint 372) set up on a RAID 0 configuration ( each has its own ide channel, both set as masters)

liteon cdrw on IDE channel 1 set as master

toshiba dvd set as master on IDE channel 2 w/ a zip 100 as slave.

3com network adapter (3c905c-tx)

My older computer never that this problem either

Try the Via PCI Latency patch. It looks like your PCI bus is very saturated and your problems occur when you are heavily accessing it.

Try going into your volume settings and muting line-in, cd-in and anything else you are not using. It won't have any impact in what you are doing most probably and may get rid of the noise. I had a similar problem and once I did that, the problem went away.

I've got a similar problem with my 2nd system. It's got a SB Audigy1 card in it. The card did the same thing in my main system (now upgraded to an Audigy2). Same card in 2 different systems leads me to believe the card is the source of the problem. Might be the same for you. Maybe try another card? I would with mine but it's my 2nd system and I'm too lazy to go through the RMA process.

Okay this is got to be the most helpful thread ever created. It seems to work now. I installed that via latency patch before and it didnt seem to work but that was long ago and an older version. THe beta one is working perfectly. However i also muted all the other sound inputs i didnt need and everything looks dandy. I was a little hisitant about installing that latency patch as it says can damage hardware, but I got to the point where i dont care anymore. But my computer still booted . THanks you guys are genii.
