Sound issues in Win XP + win amp

Im using the nvidia (i think it is) sound card tat is integrated into the DFI Lanparty Ultra-D mobo. I have my desk speakers plugged into the standard port on the sound card and I have my headphones plugged into one of the stereo slots, like the center or front ports.

Because I have my headphones plugged into one of hte stereo slots and not the standard slot, my headphones only work with programs with stereo capability. Windows media player is one of these, but the rest of the windows sounds along with win amp and trillian are not, along with various other programs.

I already looked around in windows, winamp and everything else and they dont have a stereo option. Is there a way to make my sound card kind of combine all the stereo ports into one? Or am I jsut going to have to buy a splitter so I can plug my headphones and speakers all into one slot?
