System (see My Laptop in sig for details) - Acer Aspire 5670 running openSuSE 10.1.

Sound system: unkown; unable to find.

Problem: no sound whatsoever. not from the speakers, not from the audio ports, nothing. Nada.

Solution?

Will the precompiled one for an older version of SuSE work? Because it won't let me compile the generic one right, and SuSE 10.1 is as yet unsupported.

Actually, it turns out it's the Realtek. But I only found this out after reinstalling Windows.

Long have I suffered trying to make my 2 computers work; seriously, I've installed like 3 different OSes (XP, Vista, OpenSuSE 10.1) about 15 times in the past 2 weeks on the 2 of them. I'm getting pretty tired of this. Way I see it, 1 more Linux reinstall on the laptop, but only if you guys can point out where I can get .wma support for amaroK.

jonessoda,

You need to do better homework to figure out exactly what motherboard you have. I looked at your laptop system description & you say it's "Motherboard: FoxConn, I believe Unknown."

You ought to be able to identify your mobo exactly from the laptop model & serial numbers.

Your laptop's manufacturer likely has all the detailed specs for your model of laptop on its website. Most of them do. If not on the website for self-lookup, then you can send the laptop OEM a direct inquiry for that info for your laptop.

Once you have that essential info, then you can find the correct audio driver.

Double check to make sure your sound volume is turned up in the sound miuxer or volume control software.

They said Azalea ALC883 by Realtek. I've tried installing the Realtek linux driver, will reboot in a minute and update.

Alright, I've got it to where it gives a system beep through the speakers or, if they're plugged in, the headphones, but I can't figure out how to load the mixer. Any help there?

KMix displays: Mixer cannot be found.
