Sound Hiccup in RtCW (now sound delay)

I have terrible sound delay that makes RtCW unplayable. Lowering the sound quality helps alittle but still a delay.

My system:
W98SE
1.4 Tbird
Abit KT7A Bios 64
Geforce 2MX 64mb v23.11 (doesn't like the latest 28.xx drivers)
Sound Blaster Live 5.1
Direct X 8.0

Not resolved under "recommend settings" or the lowest settings. Any ideas?

Maybe reinstall sound/video/directx/??

Just patched RtCW to v1.31


*update* Lowered graphic settings and now there is just a garbled echo of each sound.

Where did you turn this off at, RTCW or OS? Did you lose any sound quality?
 
I turned this off in w98 control panel, through multimedia option.
No noticeable loss of sound quality.


Highest setting that worked was "Basic Acceleration"
