Since building this PC in signature almost 4 years ago, from day one, periodically the sound will get loud and distorted, sort of static sounding, and the only thing I find that fixes it is a reboot.
Onboard sound -> Sound Blaster Z a year ago made no difference at all.
It happens more often if someone is messaging me repeatedly on Skype (ding, ding, ding) or I am stopping and starting a sound file. It very rarely if ever starts up during steady sound like music, tv, games.
I've always used headphones but this happened on both a G930 through USB and sennheiser pc 350 through the soundcard.
Disabling/reneabling sound device does nothing. I don't really know what else to try aside from formatting which I don't really want to do.
