Hi. I recently bought a new PC, completely new. I've had it for about a week, and all has gone well except I can't get my sound working right. Here's my PC specs.

Windows XP SP2
Mobo: TForce P965
Processor: Intel Dual Core 1.6Ghz
2046Mb Ram
Nvidia Geforce 8600GT(256mb)
NSK6500Case(Came with my 430Watt PSU)

I've flashed the bios, installed all the newest drivers for my motherboard(Onboard audio), and when I did it, the sound works for a while, then I get this error:

Once I get this error, anything new that I open has no sound. Anything I already had opened works fine, but as soon as I open something else, the new thing won't have sound.

Once I lose my sound, device manager looks like this, which means drivers are installed, right?

The device manager looks like this before my sound gets botched too.

As soon as I restart the PC, the sound will be back, but in about 10 minutes I'll get that error again and the sound is dead.

I've tried uninstalling all sound drivers, reinstalling newest ones from my mobo, tried the ones that came on he CD with the mobo, tried other older ones, they all give the exact same result. I need help! I love sound and it's annoying having to restart my PC every 5-10 minutes. :(

Edit: I'm thinking maybe I have multiple sound drivers installed and they're borkin' eachother. I don't think I do, here's some of the things in my Add/Remove programs that might be doing it.. ;x

Apple Software Update
DivX Codec
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1
Microsoft Compression Client Pack 1.0 for Windows XP
Microsoft User-Mode Driver Framework Feature Pack 1.0
NVIDIA Drivers
REALTEK GbE & FE Ethernet PCI NIC Driver
Realtek High Definition Audio Driver(Here's the audio driver I install, I guess)

Nothing else could interfere with it I don't think, so.. I think it's only the one. Is there a better way to see what drivers I have installed? on the second link, it says Legacy Audio Drivers AND the High Quality thing, I dunno, please help xD :(

Go directly to RealTek's website and download their driver and software: http://www.realtek.com.tw/down...ition%20Audio%20Codecs

There could be a variety of reasons why svchost.exe crashes. The easiest way is to let Windows send an error report and see if it has any suggestions. It may or may not be related to the audio driver because svchost.exe handles a lot of other functions. Sound might not be the only thing that doesn't work correctly after the error. After you get the error, check to see if you can get on Windows Update. If you can't, then your problem might be related to this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927385

Tried downloading their software, and the link didn't help, that wasn't the problem. Thanks though. :) I'm still having to restart every 5-10 minutes

Hi,
Do you get the crash in any specific application(s).
For instance, are they in games, or mediaplayers, or internet browsers?

If you sit playing a .wav file of a fart for 10 minutes, would that make it crash?
What about a movie?
If yes, is that movie on dvd, or on the hdd?
Loads more details needed about what specifically you were doing when the crash occurs.

Since this is a new machine, have you checked windows update to make sure system is up to date, could be something simple as a update fix.

Go into hardware devices - view by system connection.

See if there are any conflicts. Would think that you would have spotted that anyway, but, just in case.
Look for IRQ conflicts, memory conflicts (where one item of memory starts or finishes in the range of another)

What's Hardware Devices? Device Manager? How do I see memory conflicts? They all say they're workjing fine with up to date drivers.

TBH, If you have only had the machine for a week, I would back up any data that you want to keep, and ship it back to the shop.

Or at least on the phone with them, this may be a problem they have encountered before.
