sound connector problem - help please!

hi
i have a system built on an asus a7n8xdeluxe rev2 m/b. my case [enermax cs3051] has front audio and usb connectors so i hooked these up.
i now realise that only the speakers jack on the front connectors work and despite trying every jack on the m/b back panel i cannot get sound from any of the rear jacks.
what has gone wrong?
i would prefer to wire my speakers to the back and just let my wife access the front panels for her mic/webcam etc.

Typically, if you have a plug inserted into the jacks on the front, it overrides the inputs from the back. If you unplug the jack in the front they will begin to work again. This is because the sound card is not made to have double the inputs, it is an either/or situation.

sorry, maybe i didnt make my problem clear and asked it backwards😱
i had ti use the front audio connector because i could not get sound from any of the rear ones [only 1 set of speakers/1speaker jack]
in THAT case what might the problem be
