Did you try a different software? For example, You tube video might have problem but VLC will work fine... did you do any such test?

Did you check the control panel, make sure everything in default/normal, set to 2 speaks and not 5 or 7, balance bar is not pulled all the way to one side...

you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. If you think its a driver issue then you can run Linux live and see how its fairs. If even linux live gives the same problem then definitely hardware issue.

Stupid comment, but I feel I should say it. . .Occasionally I have seen exactly this problem when I haven't quite pushed the plug all the way into a very stiff socket. . . it feels like it's plugged in all the way, but another shove and both speakers work.

[FONT=Times New Roman, serif]Thanks for your suggestions.

tried your kind suggestions and all sorts of other things.

By the way, by volume, I mean the volume set through the normal Windows audio icon, normally on the right hand side of the Windows taskbar.

When the volume is set below 55% all is fine.

When the volume is set above 55% ,or so, there's lots of weird echo.

Would anyone know why?

In advance, thank you very much
