Sound Cards

First of all I want to say that i am in a computer cafe in Florence, Italy! Im in europe for vacation and i was lucky to find this place.

Second of all, i am planning to do some recording (on input from my synthesizer and maybe electric bass) and i need a good sound card for this, i also want good output for a surroundsound or digital sound system. Also, i will need a good software package to do my recording, i want something that has a lot of functionality.
