Sound cards???

I usually don't worry much about sound cards but the onboard sound on my Asus P5B DLX is horrible and only has 1 input on the mobo.... I have two DVD-CDRW drives- one IDE and one- SATA.

I'm wondering if this card is any good for the money?? I'm not willing to spend any more than this:

What are your uses for the sound card?

If you just want to listen to music with it, get the Chaintech AV710 or the M-Audio Revolution. Both are great for stereo sound if you set them up right. If you're going to use your card for gaming, then you should probably spend a little more and get an X-Fi (maybe $70 or so for an XtremeMusic, I think).

Are you talking about hooking up the analog audio cable from the optical drives to the soundcard / integrated sound?

If so, you don't have to do that anymore as the audio can be carried through the data cable.
 
Buy an Audigy 2 on FS/FT for $30-$45. I saw one last week selling for $35 shipped, and it had some component (a DAC?) replaced with a higher-end one too. Audigy 2 is MUCH better than integrated sound in my opinion.
 
Oh, and the main advantage to that card is that it has DDL capability. If you're not hooking up to a receiver, then it's not something you're going to use.

X-Fi Xtreme Music was $50AR recently and that would be a better choice in most cases.
 
I say go with a creative sound card as they have extra features that almost all modern pc games support as well as up mixing stereo sound to a surround sound setup.
 
The OP still hasn't said if he's even going to be using the sound card for gaming. If he doesn't game at all, he'd be throwing money away if he bought an X-Fi.
