Sound cards with OPTICAL OUTPUTS? Other than the SB PLATINUM.

Unfortunately, I cannot use the SPDIF output, as the COAX input on my receiver is taken. I need an Optical solution, hence the Sound Blaster.

Are there any sound cards that have an Optical out from the CARD ITSELF? I will have limited 5@1/4 bays to use with this rig. I need an Optical out from the back of the machine.

Thanks!

If I remeber correctly some of the older Aureal Vortex II cards had optical outputs on them, but im not for sure on that....
anyone care to back me up?!

The AOpen AW744Pro has Optical out on the main card bracket.
It's also a 4 channel Analog card if gaming is a concern at all.
It's also about the price of an SBLive! Value...if not less.

I can get it for $45 canadian, that's $30US.

Some of the Vortex2 cards do as well, like the Xitel Storm Platinum. But I'd rather buy a chipset that is still supported. The AW744 is a Yamaha chipset, and Yamaha isn't about to die 😉

Aureal has bad drivers for Win2k, and there will be no new ones because Aureal is belly-up (*sheds a tear for Aureal*)

lots of aureal 2 vortex based cards have toslink optical...

i have a xitel storm platinum, my roomie has an aureal 2 vortex reference with optical outs...

I have heard some good things about M-Audio 24/96? Is it ideal for a HTPC? It doesn't have an Optical, but the card comes highly recommended. Link below...

There is a similar card from the same company with an Optical out called the DiO 2448 and his has OPTICAL. Will this work for me? Link below...

Of the cards mentioned, (not including the M-Audio Coax out), what will give me the best quality, along with the most STABILITY! This will be used with a p3 500mhz system. Thanks...

Hercules GTXP (Optical out???)
AOpen AW744Pro (Optical out???)
Xitel Storm Platinum (Optical out???)
Audiophile 2496 card (Optical out???)
DiO 2448 (has optical)

A good card with an Optical Output that I can hook into my Pioneer 509S Receiver is what I want.

Thanks for the help guys (and gals)!

OK. Nobody home on this question for some reason...

If I can get the away with hooking a card up to my receiver via COAX, how is the ACOUSTIC EDGE? Review HERE.

FOr $100 or less, it sure sounds good. It would be hooked into a COMPAQ 500mhz P3.

Hi,

I just had a quick question about the Soundblaster Live Platinum 5.1 sound card. I have an MiniDisc Player and I know I need a sound card that has an OPTICAL OUTPUT so I can record digital music. When I read the specs for this soundcard I don't see the word "optical" any where in the description, although I see IR for infrared right? Is that IR the optical output or is that just IR for the remote control? I've been looking for help for a while. If any of you can help, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

The Herc Gamesurround Fortissimo II also appears to have optical input and outputs (both on the back of the card. they fit a lot of stuff back there by having front, back, headphone, and mic all plug into a single din output that then splits into the input wires). It's based on a chipset similiar to the Game Theather's (basically the same except the Fortissimo II chipset supports only 4 analog speakers whereas the GT XP's chipset supports 5.1). I just ordered one of the Fortissimo II cards myself. I don't know why this card hasn't garnered a little more attention.

I have the hercules/guillemot maxisound fortissimo
it cost me $35 and has TOSlink out on the card.
it also supports EAX and A3D to boot.
