Sound cards. Whats good nowadays

for sound quality, it seems people love the turtle beach santa cruz, for gaming peformance, the audigy 2, and if you go the athlon route, a motherboard with soundstorm audio.

$200??

Turtle Beach Santa Cruz for $60.

All you should need.

But i also agree with the onboard Soundstorm.

TBSC's are nice. Audigy 2's are nice, but too expensive IMO.

I'm selling mine if you're interested. Click the link in my sig.

Nothing compares to an Audigy for gaming. But I'd much rather have superior music/DVD audio. The performance hit from using the M-Audio is fine by me. I don't think I'll ever notice the difference between 110FPS and 123FPS (not real numbers, they are just made up).

Nothing much has come up over the last year or 2, other than from Creative with their Audigy and Audigy2. The TBSC and Philips AE is still as good now as ever, with the TBSCs receiving recent driver updates that add functionality and features to its already great performance. The M-Audio Revo 7.1 is coming from another angle, so whether it suits you or not depends on your usage. For most users, the Audigy2 is the most well rounded solution, and for $200, I'd recommend it to general users who are willing to part with that amount of cash for a soundcard.
