Sound card vs. on-board sound

Building my new computer, I ran out of money before I hit sound options, so I'm left with either using a 3 year old SB Live! card or the onboard Realtek integrated sound on the A8N-SLI board (nforce4). Is it worth even putting the SB Live! in the computer? I hope to get a better solution in a few months but this is the choice for now.

some on-board cards do not give u a clean sound, like my cheap mobo's build-in sound started sqeeking after awhile it was really getting to me and i upgraded to audigy.... dont really notice much difference in quality other than the sqeeking, and some extra features of the audigy.

so unless ur really picky, or ur mobo is screwed up like mine, or u have the money to upgrade to higher end M-audio sound card, I say build-in is just as good
