sound card upgrade?

i just got a creative i-trigue 3300 (2.1) this christmas and i am using a mad dog 5.1 sound card on the system.

i'm thinking of upgrading to a Live 24bit or an audigy 2 value. will this make a difference in sound quality? i dont think the upgrade would be worth it if there is a very minor improvement.

thanks

I would def say no ebcause your speakers are only 2.1 and it would prob not make any difference at all, if any it would only be slight..... and as you said, it DEF is not worth that difference. stick w/ what you have, it will work for your situation

it would be a downgrade if anything. audigy sounds notably inferior to the mad dog according to most users, and that includes me (assuming mad dog is on par with av-710 like they say)

Do you mostly listen to music or game?

I would say get the Chaintech AV710. Best card for the money. You can also flash it to prodigy drivers to make it sound even better.

Get the Chaintech AV-710 card as an upgrade to what you have now. The Chaintech AV-710 card uses the same chip (Envy 24) as the Mad Dog 7.1 card uses, which is a better card then the 5.1 you are using now.

the chaintech is better than the Audigy? Always thought creative made the best cards...
is this also a 24 bit card with onboard sound processors and all that stuff?

i think newegg has it for 25$. know anyplace selling it cheaper?

thanks

I would not say it is a better card but that it is a better value. If price does not make a differance than buy the Audigy2. You did not say if the sound card was used for music or games. If your primary thing is games then get the Sound Blaster card. If music then get the Chaintech. The Chaintech card is half the cost of the Sound Blaster Audigy. The biggest thing with the Chaintech is that it has Optical out output to connect to a home amp. To get that in a Sound Blaster card you have to pay alot more.

Here is a Link to a board that has a ton of info about Envy24 chipset sound cards and links to a lot of reveiws about the cards.
