Okay, got another glitch to unravel and need some help. My system will freeze up when it's under heavy graphics and sound strain, such as gaming when ALOT of activity is going on. The freeze up will sometimes allow a soft boot, but also will randomly make me go a hard boot to get going again. Finally got an error message relating to it, but unable to take the next step.

Error message: VxD stack exceeds limits in system.ini; increase stack size or reduce drivers (WinSP's).

I've lookin in system.ini and can find no entry for WinSP. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks everyone.

System
W98 enhanced
512 megs ram
1.2 athalon
Soyo mb
Santa Cruz sc
ATI 9500 Pro
Maxtor 30 gb
Antec SL350 ps

ps - already removed then re-installed most current SC drivers. Reinstalled W98.

To me it sounds like it could be one of two things.

1.) Virtual Memory settings need to be changed
2.) PSU cannot keep up.

Try this:

Stack overflow error

This warning crops up amazingly often, but it?s usually intermittent and non-fatal so people tend not to complain.

It happens when memory reserved for internal communication between Windows and certain hardware devices is used up.

Try this quick fix: go to Start / Run, type SYSEDIT and press [Enter].

Click on the CONFIG.SYS window.

Look for a line beginning ?STACKS=?. If there isn?t one, create it anywhere. Make the line: STACKS=64,512

Select Save on the File menu. Close Sysedit. The change takes effect after rebooting and increases the size of the problematic memory buffer.

If you still see errors, follow the troubleshooting steps in Knowledge Base article Q145799.
