Sound card issues! Yay!

OK, I installed my audigy! from disk on my clean windows xp. Then, I got the updated driver and installed those, which altogether JACKED UP the sound. So I removed the audigy! from the device manager and re-installed from the disk again. Now when windows loads up I get an error telling me that my sound card is incorrectly installed, and to reinstall it. Unfortunately all of my efforts in this procedure have failed. I still receive the message and get no sound.

Help!
Thanks.

By uninstalling, have you also removed the card from the slot, then 'restart' to totally begin from scratch?

No, I haven't uninstalled the card to that extent. All I did was remove it from the device manager and reinstall the original drivers from the CD.

Do this, sometimes you may have to boot without the card in, shut down, install card, and see what happens.
