Sound card issue with Windows ME

I have Sound Blaster PCI 128 running on Windows ME. The output on the speaker jack is very very low. Meaning at maximum volume I have the put the speaker up next to my ear to hear it. The drivers seem to be installed correctly. At first it had Creative default PCI drivers so having that issue i installed the sb pci 128 drivers (win9x version). Same thing. I'm sure that this card is not defective because it works fine with win98 and on othre systems.

Another thing that is strange is that there is no volume icon in the system tray (that one hear the clock). I have to go thorugh start menu to adjust.

I've installed an older sb awe32 (isa) on this system and works fine. Still no volume icon though.

So my 2 questions are:
1) How can i get this sound card to work with ME?
2) How can i make ME load the volume icon in the sytem tray?

To load the system tray icon go into control panel and select add/remove programs then select Windows Setup then select Multimedia Tools then select Volume Control. Hit Apply.

Are you sure you are using the Win98 drivers? I just installed the SB Ensoniq AudioPCI card in WinME and it picked up the WDM (W2000) drivers off of the CD. Loaded fine, but sound volume was really low. Had to go and delete the .inf file out of c:\windows\inf\other and point to the Win98 drivers. Now all is loud and well!

You might want to uninstall the sound card and the driver's you've installed. Then let Windows auto detect it from a cold boot.


On a side note, I had no problems at all installing my SB PCI 128 with WinME and was pleasantly surprised to find out that I can do multiple wave output now

Fumiup: I did exactly that. Just dont know why it wont show up in the system tray even though the volume control is in the accessories/multimediea menu of the start menu.

Ronzon: Can you be more detail about how you did that? What was the file you deleted? And how did you point the the "correct" drivers?

Rakkis: So you used ME's detected drivers and not that SB drivers (win9x) that came on the CD?

But the card was detected correctly. I have no idea why it wouldn't be working on yours.
