Sound Card help

That site has a terrible description 😛

Does it have a multichannel analog input on it or just digital and stereo analog inputs?

EDIT: You have two sets of multichannel analog inputs

What's your usage going to be like? Music / Games / Movies?

With a Multichannel analog input you can pretty much get whatever you want.

The X-Fi XtremeMusic was $50AR just recently so that would be a good choice if you're looking to do gaming.

Is this a better description? Text

I'm not really sure what this receiver has. My dad asked me to find one for him and only gave me the receiver model number.

This is going to be used primarily for movies but there may be some music/games too.

EDIT: Also, what cables would I need to connect the two?

If you go with a digital connection, just a digital optical (toslink) cable. This might come with the card depending on what you get.

If you do a multichannel analog connection, you'll need three 3.5mm stereo to dual RCA adapters and then three pairs of RCA audio cables.

I think this comes down to how important getting true surround and high EAX levels from games will be.

If it's not important, get a Chaintech AV-710 for ~$25.

Thanks a bunch. This should help quite a bit. 🙂

No problem.

My chaintech that I used to have had a little POS toslink cable that came with it that worked just fine.

If you're looking to get additional cables, check out monoprice.

If you want to make sure you have the right cables picked out eventually, just come back here and post, I'll be here (along with lots of other people) 😀
