Sound Card and Onboard Audio

Is possible to connect speakers to the sound card and connect headphones to the line out on the motherboard and have them both to work at the same time. I tried this and only the one connected to the SC works.

the motherboard sound connectors only work for the on-board sound, and can not be used if you have a add on sound card.

you can do this just fine, but must change the device used by the program each time, or have it use the preferred device, and change that in control panel when needed.

Thank You both. but im think im gonna go with a splitter. would there be any drawbacks on quality?

Yes, but probably not that you'll notice. If you listen to some relatively complex music and really listen, you should be able to hear a difference. If you aren't listening for it, though, everything should sound just fine. The only main difference I've ever noticed just listening normally is sometimes with headphones you can notice a bit of a volume drop, but even then nothing major.
