same family, more less same thing. thats not what I remember of creative's marketing strategy. face it, it wont change gaming by much at all - precisely why creative is pushing this "audiophile card" idea. plus there is someone commented on the card's sonic signature, and thus comes my babble. I was going to post the link on this crystalizer BS but someone else beat me to the punch.

how are these new X-Fi cards from Creative supposed to stack up against the E-MU line of cards like the 1212m or 0404?

Seems kinda pricey to me!

i hear the $400 version **may sound identical due to exactly same components used. granted, even the previous audigys were based on the same DSP, but that doesnt say much about the analog subsection. so finally you have a card that doesnt sound bad and works well for games, it appears. but at that MSRP, you might as well save up some more and go for external dacs like microDAC or VDA-1 if music is your priority. I am very happy with my modded 1212M, not planning on upgrading the source for a while..

Yeah right. After all this time Creative is still not able to produce a soundcard that doesn't up and then downconvert? That was the most major complaint and this POS is still doing it? Sorry, but no thanks.
Sure they're able to, however they're sadly not going to bother placing any R&D money into it when your average luser doesn't seem to notice or care.

I hear you. They did resond the first time very quickly (posted above). I saw from another post, they were told Sept. 12th, so naturally I e-mailed them again, but have not heard anything.

I want it, and I want it NOW!

If you think that is anywhere close to what a good soundcard can do, I have a bridge to sell you.

The verdict is still coming on this creative card/chip. If the past is any indication, it will be the gaming standard, but just OK for movie and music fare. Having 50 million transistors does not automatically transmit into being better sound quality.

It's nice that other companies are starting to finally return to trying to fight creative's near monopoly in the sound card market. See the Via envy chip, the latest dolby digital live chipset from another company (cmedia?), and the like. It's unfortunate that Creative sued Aureal out of existence, as A3D was and remains the pinacle of 3D sound.

What can you do when you have an inferior product but sue the competition. This $200 sound card cannot possibly be worth more than $70 at best.
