Sound Blaster Audigy 2zs setup with Logitech Z5500

Oh that's why I couldn't have DD or DTS with Logitech Decoder🙂 I thought that some audio Cd already came with DTS.

Cya

There are "dual discs" which come with a DD side and a stereo side. Or something like that...but they are rare(gaining in popularity though)

another setup quandary... 🙁
i just attempted to set up my "new" logitech z-680, but when i run the creative audigy 2 zs speaker setup test, i'm only getting sound out of the front left, rear left and subwoofer. i tested all of the speakers individually, and they are all fine.

after reading all of the input from this forum, i'm trying to setup analog for gaming purposes 1st, and i bought three "audio cable 1/8" mono miniplug to 1/8" mono miniplug" cords part # 420-2420 from radioshack to facilitate the connection as the z-680 setup i bought did not include the 6-channel direct cable.

i think i have everything set up well on the soundcard software side, so i'm at a loss as to the lack of sound from the center, and two right satellites. is something wrong with my amp?

any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!

first of all, it sounds like you are describing what happens when you have it hooked up digitally. You will only get sound of the front speakers in the speaker test.

You should have purchased 3 stereo miniplug cables, not mono. there are two channels coming out of each output port.

You can use mono to mono to setup your speaker system digitally

Thanks! The CORRECT connection cords did the trick for the right front and right rear speakers. However, during test, the sound that should be coming from the center speaker, is coming from the subwoofer. Since the subwoofer and the center speaker are both fed from one cable, do I somehow need to separate the feeds?
thanks for your help. this forum is boss.

hm thats odd, I suppose you could splice the cords so that it reverses the polarity although this shouldn't happen. You are using a STEREO cable for the sub/center right? Otherwise, make sure it all the way pushed in.

There is no solution to this problem according to logitech where this problem actually resides. They do not plan a fix and onboard audio is no different. But, the audio does produce surround using the integrated logitech sound board. So, I would suggest sending back anything other than the audigy4 sound card, if you insist on better audio I would go with the klipsch ultra 5.1 w/audigy4 or 2.

just reverse the polarity of the stereo cable, all ya need is a little soldering skill. Or is the center and sub channel coming out of both the center and sub....?

don't remember know, I replaced the set up when I found out that the z-5500 make any sound card obsolete as they have onboard decoding.

You need to get rid of the soundblaster and stick with the logitech w/on board sound provided that it supports 5.1. Your only other alternative is to switch to something like the klipsch pro media ultra 5.1, I have them and they are awsome but cost more and don't have the integrated surround processor.

Hi guys. I have a simple question for u. It´s been almost 3 years since i bought an Audigy 1 and i was wondering if i should get the "new" audigy 2 Zs to get the best of my new Z5500. What do u think??

Thanks a lot.

My guess on why the speaker test only works with analog connection with Z-5500 is the sound card (unless it's soundstorm) cannot encode the speaker test signal into DD or DTS therefore Z-5500 treats the signal it receives as stereo.

Now to my question, when playing The Lord of the Rings (DVD) through analog connection from my onboard soundcard (Asus A8N-SLI), the bass is weak for most of part of the movie, only at times when there's very low frequency signal, then I hear the bass from the sub. In other words it feels like a lot of low frequency output is missing. My guess for this problem is mid-to-low frequency is not passed to the sub hence the lack of bass I hear. Playing musics however has no such problem. Then I found out if I use optical out and let Z-5500 decode the signal, playing LOTR sounds just awesome. Does anybody have a similar problem? I've only just got my Z-5500 so I haven't thoroughly tested gaming performance, but I fear that if playing DVD through analog outputs has the weak bass problem, wouldn't I have similar problem playing games support 5.1 through analog output?

It could be just a pure volume difference between the digital/analog modes.

When playing music, the Logitech subwoofer has an internal crossover that starts very high up (somewhere in the 150 to 180hz region).

DVDs will play a discrete subwoofer channel, and oftentimes the sub channel might only start at 60 or 80hz and below. I watch a lot of DVDs and with the sub crossed over at 80hz, and I only really "hear" solid lows during very dramatic music or combat scenes.

OK I had to return my speakers to Newegg. Want cheap LOL. What I read heare before and am thinking of doing is buying a suround sound system and using the Audialgy ZS2 gamer to conect to the amp I saw a link in here once with a suround sound set from circuit city for like $329. I hope that this will solve the problem that all seem to be haveing. you get a nice amp and decent spearkers for just a little more than what you spend on the Logitech set. Later on you could buy Advent speakers or somthing like that to upgrade your system and have a nice stero system to go with the PC.
anyone see a problem using the Creative card to do that?

no there is no problem doing that. The connections you have to make suck a bit, but its not too bad.

I would recommend paying a bit more for a surround sound system than $329 but thats just my opinion

Unless your receiver has 6 channel direct input, you're going to be screwed for surround sound in games.

Onkyo Reciver I use for my Home theater has several optical inputs but if I rember correctly sondbalter dosn't offer optical out just coaix so this may not be a good Idea will go with Klipsh I guess, I had a 4.o system of them and my son still use's them the were a excelent set of speakers.

Optical has practically no advantage over digital coax. Use the coax

LOL thats what I get for rushing off the dinner. Lets fix this...

Wish me luck. I'm getting the Z5500 speakers from CompUsa Early tomarrow morning. I just hope with some stuff I've done I have the credit to get the finnancing. Off the shelf the 5500s are a bit much. Just had a new rig built and my budget is shot. LOL. My Creative Inspire 4.1 speakers have a problem. The sub will not work anymore. Every now and again the thing will come to life for a few seconds and then quit again. 🙁 I hope to have the new speakers by about noon. Its my day off. LOL. The FAQs and the stuff above have helped alot. I'm going to buy the digital Coaxial cable at CompUsa and see what happens. I'm going to try various things to see what fits my needs. I'll let you know how it all goes. 🙂 BTW I have an Audigy2 ZS sound card.

Did you see you need a special adapter to connect the digital coax cable to your audigy2?
