SoulCalibur III exclusively on PS2

Ungrateful sonsabeeches...

Okay, so initial anger and hostility aside, why in God's name would any developer make a game exclusive to a console unless they're a small start-up outfit who's getting major kickbacks from The Big Three console vendors. Why in the name of all things fighting game sacred would Namco (who is pretty damn financially sound) make their most beloved, celebrated, adored, and worshipped franchise exclusively for the PS2?? Are they really banking on the hope I'll run out and buy a PS2 to play their game?... Well they're wrong dammit... dead wrong. My hatred for Sony and their pretty horrible support (which I've been the victim of on all kinds of different products, from televisions to laptops) runs too deep to even give them $150 for a PS2 (or PSP for that matter, although by all accounts I hear its awesome).

Intelligence and reason sinking back in, I realize full well that 'exclusive' these days comes with an expiration date and we will no doubt see SoulCalibur III for the GC and Xbox by 2006, but it still ticks me off to no end that all the Sony fanbois get it before me. And it also ticks me off that Namco wouldn't want to use the considerably more powerful Xbox to launch the game with... 😡

It's obviously a money decision.

Apparently, Namco decided that whatever money they took in to make it exclusive, outweighed the income from the other consoles (minus the added development costs, of course.)

If i remember correctly, SC2 loads the slowest and was the buggiest on PS2 compared to GC and Xbox?
So it's probably that they're making up for their mistake and decided to release it on one system only, so SC3 won't get compared among different consoles 😛

Either way, exclusives titles (regardless of what game) suck majorly...
You mean i have to buy all the different consoles to play a particular game?
Bleh.. maybe it's a sign that i should open up my own gaming shop .... -(

Dunno if this is set in stone. I remember when GTAIII was PS2 only. And how many "Xbox Exclusive" games did I see at the launch that made it to other systems?

The three xbox exclusive launch titles I can remember are Amped, Halo, and Munch's Oddessy, all three of which are still xbox exclusive (among consoles, I know Halo PC came out).

I have a PS2 so it doesn't bother me that it's PS2-only. What does suck is the PS2 version was the worst looking version of the three with SC2 - I'd rather play SC3 on my xbox. Hopefully they'll port it eventually and I'll just wait to pick it up.

Didn't Splinter Cell has a "Xbox Only" sticker on it? I think there were a few others too.

Fuggin shite!

Not that I care, since my XBOX has been broken and awaiting parts for... 6 months?

This sucks SC has always been multi-platform. Its ok if either 1.) its a new game or 2.) its traditionally been on one console (like GT series, which I still can't figure out why they don't release it on PC, a much more capable platform for something so exhaustingly graphic).

Careful - don't overwhelm his brain with this information. And FWIW, Link and the megaton hammer>all

Oh well. While I really got into SC2, it didn't have anywhere near the same WOW factor that the original had on the dreamcast. That game still stands up graphically and gameplay wise over 5 years after its release.

SC2 on the GC > all other SC2

Best bonus character.
Loads faster (at least faster than the PS2).

Because finally a good game came out on it so everyone bought it 😕

Super sweet! SC2 was such a blast, made Tekken 4 look slower then crap. Never had problems with it in my PS2, ergo I'm fine with it just being on PS2. 🙂

Namco has always been in Sony's pocket. Every Sony game console launch has included some form of Ridge Racer. Namco used PS1 hardware for its arcade machine back in the day and the original Soul Blade was created using that hardware. That why I was shocked when Namco made the sequel Soul Caliber a Dreamcast exclusive.

Yeah, and even though the original arcade version was running on what was essentially PS2 hardware, the arcade version never slowed down on some of the stages like the home version did. Namco really screwed up the home version, it appears that they "enhanced" the animations/meshes for the GC/Xbox versions, and then back-ported those models (I assume) into the PS2 home version as well. Try playing as Mitsurugi or Ivy in the clock-tower stage, and do the same on the arcade version. Can I get a collective "WTF???"

So sad, because I prefer the PS2 version, because it's like the arcade. (No high-def 720P lovin like the Xbox version though. Oh well.)

Btw, for anyone familiar with it, a friend of mine was the one to come up with the "just-frame chicken" bug/glitch in SC2. (And if you're not familiar with it, don't ask, it's too "cheap" to allow to exist. It's a bug in the game.)
