Soul Food, what is it really?

Im not trying to be racisct or anything, but the other day I was at friends bar-b-q and I asked the cook (he was black) what was on the menu. He said, "soul food"; which turned out to be corn bread (quite good, it was spicy), b-b-q chicken, tri-tip, patatoe salad, and half of a roasted pig. Damn that food was good (i could use sum right now). But the question is, WHAT REALLY IS SOUL FOOD?

Cuisine from the Southern United States. Both Euro-Americans and Afro-Americans pretty much ate the same food but poorer residents of that area utilize less expensive foods.

It is pretty fatty. meaning it tastes good.
Examples
Fried Chicken
Greens
Corn bread
Beans
Bar B Q: Smoke and grilled meats
Pig's feet
Grits

Yep. They put a popeyes in the area I used to live, and I haven't had KFC since. Too bad I moved and now I'm only near KFC's again!

tri-tip isn't southern soul food though. tri-tip is pretty much a california thing.

Your joking with us right? patatoe I'm not usually the spell police, but come on! It's Potato! Anyway! No offense meant!🙂

I think Soul food is anything that makes you happy! Just like comfort food! Mine is hashbrowns, scrabbled eggs and turkey bacon!🙂

Cajun cuisine which was popular during the 80's is an example of this type of cooking. It uses low cost foods with lots of fat and high impact flavor systems.

Heh, it's always funny when someone calls someone else on their spelling, then misspells (well, mis-types) a word as well. Scrabbled eggs? Now now, you know you're not supposed to play with your food. 😉

you guys should try the real chinese food.
I like everything inside a cow or pig.....MMMmmm... intestines....
