i am not experienced user at all, so please be patient with me!:)

i got a new P4, Prescott 3.0, 512 ram, 80 gb
connected all this to my old 15inch monitor....
currently creating a website, so the first day downloaded Dreamweaver, Corel Draw and some other helpful progs,
first day the problems startded...
while working it froze 100 times a day....lets say i will be sitting and working and suddenly the screen freezes...no reaction to the mouse, keyboard....only Reset:(
went to my supplier - he changed Ram from Gygabyte to Asus....
first day was fine....it worked perfectly on word, net surfing and etc...
but when i started dreamweaver, adobe, or corel....the screen goes black with a blue square in it: new screen mode....and after that its just a black square....no reaction to keyboard, mouse...
and + it seems start freezing again...

if u have any ideas, please share

Try downloading and installing the software one application at a time. That way you will be able to isolate the problem.

well, it sounds like the downloading is done....

try going into START
RUN
MSCONFIG
STARTUP tab [if you are using xp or 98],
disable all non essential progs from starting up at boot.
see what happens.

Also, what psu, RAM, mobo, vga card are you using?
did you have a firewall when you connected to the internet to download all this stuff?
Download ADAWARE and SPYBOT, update and run both, as well as your normal antivirus [TRY www.grisoft.com for AVGFREE if you haven't got one]

MORE information needed. this will take time to sort out - and you are going to need to post details when asked if you want any useful help.
Thank you

Hi again,
If you are doing 'ordinary office work' and internet stuff, then, you don't need an excellent vga card - a standard 32MB will do fine, and will probably cause less probs [keep it simple stoopid].

Now, I know I'm gonna get shouted at for this, but for normal 2D operation [where you are not playing games], then you don't need more than 32MB.

What recommendation are you talking about? the problem? or replacement?
If it is what to say to the fella - that is simple.
"I bought this computer from you. It doesn't work. Money back please". Usually - a small shop will offer a 7 day chance for refund, otherwise, he is bound to fix the prob if it is a hardware issue [for a year]

I think the GIGABYTE and ASUS are the motherboard.
the PRESCOTT is the Pentium4 CPU.
Ask what RAM he is using. If he says "oh, just the normal stuff, if you want the special stuff like Kingston, or Crucial - its gonna cost you" then slap him.
If you 'got a good deal' then that means that cheap components were used - but that is his prob - cos he should be under contract to fix it for you.

I'm not saying that Asus don't make RAM - but I haven't heard of them doing that.
They are a reputable motherboard manufacturer though.

might be worth checking the system for viruses once it is up and running -

See the problem might be - and i hope it isnt - that if someone is connected to the internet without a firewall [try zonealarm or kerio [both free]], then your computer will get attacked, very quickly. If the system was working without a prob before you installed the software/surfed the net, then it may be something to do with either dodgy RAM/PSU, viruses/worms/trojans.
Also download ADAWARE and SPYBOT [just do a search - both free] update them both, and run.

Dont' tell him that cos otherwise he will tell you that you got a virus [that would be your fault] and you would be charged for it. It would be down to him to do that as a matter of course - but if you have got one........
you make sure you aren't nasty to him before this.

shouldn't be that much of a problem downloading from a reputable site - BUT THERE DEFINITELY is a problem with just being connected!!!!!!!

There are lots of clever ways for people to send out automatic probing 'scripts' to see if there are vulnerable computers out there. These can probe millions of computers a minute.
Yours may have been one of them.
Once a vulnerable computer is found, then a cleverly programmed piece of code is installed on your computer without your knowledge - automatically.

This is the equivalent of leaving your front door unlocked, and a gang of kids coming down the street quickly pushing each door to see if it is unlocked, then when one is found, they go in and hide, ready to jump out at you and say BOO!

I recently worked on a computer that had recently installed zonealarm, and it logged over 1.5million probes/attempts on his computer in 11 days!!!!!

see if you can download zonealarm as well - pretty easy to use.
Fairly intuitive/mostly automatic but you can choose to be very controlling with it if you want

sorry - shoulda asked right at the beginning.

What does event viewer show up?

START
CONTROL PANEL
Administrative tools
event viewer.
try all 3 items.
See when the crashes occurred - look for some white/red crosses.

tell us what the event ID is, and the SOURCE

but only do that after you have scanned with all 3 progs in SAFE MODE.

and you have downloaded a firewall. [do that before you reboot - cos we dont want you going online again without a firewall - do we?]
don't install it just yet.
