You don't state what processor you have now. You might get better results with a faster processor first. When you sleep restart the computer so you get rid of the swap files from surfing, etc.

You might want to also consider getting PC2700 cause pc2100 is the oldest. [I haven't been doing tricked out stuff lately but you might be able to get PC2700 cas 2.5 running at PC2100 cas2 cutting clock cycles upping production~]
Also you might get the PC2700 for overclocking a AMD XP 1600 with the core that seems to work well for that purpose and there is also the 1800.

Other options are to start another computer and use VPN so u can use only one monitor to view this old computer.

{{{The following is an exercise for me to evaluate cost cutting it has notes for you also}}}

A all in one motherboard with the sis video and a AGP slot for later expansion. Cost ~$70us shipped (here.)
Or a nvidia motherboard $87 has a better video (there are 4 versions up to $130)
Prices I have quoated are from reputable dealers there are sometimes lower but...

So in theory
$?? PS your prefference ($33 Enermax 300 watt)
$?? case ummm breifcase (lan parties) unless it interfiers with mums TV. Then wrap in foil at home.
$83 nforce motherboard
$ DDR memory for using on board video you need to populate 2 of the 3 memory locations but short yourself to cut costs to get it up and running just game performance will suck (I think I'm correct about this) hence you cut start up costs.
$15 used drive
?? $9 floppy
$?? processor $67 for a XP 1700 or $60 for a 1600 or $42 for a 1.2 duron these include shipping or $2 more
$?? heatsink/fan
$?? extra fans for cooling
??? operating system rob it from your old system and replace the old system with Linux for free to be legal.
Also upon building this the $15 HD you might put in the old system and put your other drive in this faster thing.

And back to your origional question a faster processor will produce more WU depending on the speed increase over a change in ram (unless like 64 megs win 95 swapping a lot.)

You lost me after the first couple of sentences! ;)

As thread in GH said, i'm getting RAM today, as i'm doing a major reworking of stuff in computers in my house and as always mine gets the newest fastest bits ;)

So i am getting new RAM (from work, staff discount ;)) and don't know whether to get PC133 or PC2100 DDR (no 2700 in stock and then that's about £15 more expensive per stick!)

I will more than likely get the DDR, but i really would like to know if there is actually going to be a speed increase!

I currently have an Athlon 1.0GHz at 1.467GHz (146.7MHz FSB x 10), and i better be able to keep this same overclock with the new DDR ram!

I don't have enough money or parts at the moment to get another new computer, but i'll let you off for brainstorming in my thread! (hey, its better than crapping in it ;):D)

You say "That much of an improvement"
my response would be no
My reasoning is that at the time the K7S5A came out it was in the top fastest chipsets and I went from PC-133 crucial to Circuit City (?kingston?) PC2100 and testing memory increase was not a big jump as I had hoped for and that was with a AMD XP 1700+.
I have a Tyan Tiger latest motherboard with dual 1800MP+ and the above mentioned box running Redhat 7.2 whips the dual rig comparing a signal processor.

I think i (and others) have convinced me to get the DDR, and that way even if i get a new motherboard soon, i can put the DDR into that and then get some more DDR or even some PC133 for the K7S5A, and i think that the DDR will improve the speed of it :)

Even if it's only a few mins/WU, that's still slightly more WU i can get done ;)

clarification I have DDR in the 1700+ rig. Where I put the 133 in a computer for a step daughter.

I know that convincing I had to have my DDR that I couldn't wait for 3 days of shipping to get crucial and I paid for it.
