try the new thermaltake volcano 7 with the variable speed fan, its quiet and gets faster as the heat rises.
only $20 in the US.

Thanks cakin

Yup, it is available here, listed purely as the 'Volcano 7'.

Prine £11.75 inc. VAT and free shipping at my favourite vendor. 🙂

Any views on this HSF before I take the plunge?

I still sortof balk at anything from Thermaltake... :frown:

😛@Cakin!

But you might as well give that one a go, especially if the price is right. I think anything more than what you currently have will probably make some sort of difference. Alternately, the Taisol that micron mentioned was one that was highly recommended last year, over on the CPU/OCing forum.

I agree with Poof. 🙂 Although Thermal take isn't the best, If you don't want to spend much, the Thermaltake has to be better than what you currently got 😉.

RMA Boy, I've seen that many, many times. I was in retailing (clothing) for almost 40 years and this term always meant "Return Merchandise Authorization". If you didn't have an RMA on the box the package would be refused and returned to you incurring the additional return postage charged. I guess it can mean anything you want and it is really not important...just wanted to give all of you young whipper snappers a history lesson. 😀

I am using ordinary cooler master heatsink in all my Athlon setup. Even on a Tbird 1.4 overclocked to 1.5 without a real concern about heating. The normal room temperature here in Hawaii goes as high as 80F in the summer. You're location, UK, seems much colder than my location, so I find it interesting that you're concern about heat.

I just returned a Crucial module - it died after 1 day of use. I think it's part of a defective batch.

Hey Migroo, who's your fav vendor here in the UK? I like Dabs, but they have a very poor slection of HSF's

On a side note does anybody know why the price of ram has just gone through the roof??

Alex 😀

Poof and micron - Thanks 🙂

Smokeball - Just a different country and culture...

IsOs - Yup, outside temp right now is about 5 deg. C - I love it like this 🙂. Problem is, this PC is in a well heated office...

Hey Alex - I have to say Dabs.com as they just have the best all round service 🙂 I know their range of HSFs is a little lacking, but I am not an overclocker. Brilliant stock normally, nice selection of goods, good customer service and FREE shipping (no hidden costs) means I love them 😉
(I guess the shipping its not free, as it must be included in the price of components - but they are not that expensive when compared with others!!)

RAM Prices

Yup, Crucial DDR Ram has now reached £60+ for a 256mb Stick. Reason has to be that while the major drop in prices we saw in previous months was caused by an abundance of memory, now that manufacturers have scaled back production (which lowers the supply), prices have gone up as demand stays constant.

Its simple supply and demand (first think you learn in Economics) 🙂

:Q :Q :Q

Oh shoot! It may be time to stock up before it gets back to where it was a year ago! 🙁

Yes it is annoying.

My main concern is that the price of DDR Ram vs RAMBUS was quite a lot, which urged me towards the Athlon XP even further, now that the price of DDR has risen, the XP has lost one of its advantages in my eyes. 🙁

*STILL* cant decide! 😱
