[Sort of resolved?] CD in = no computer functionality

Ever get that problem where you put a CD in your drive, and it keeps constantly reading it for no apparent reason, locking down your PC? No? Well that's the problem I have. And I would like to know how to solve it 🙂

I would suggest you try a different CD.

Do you mean it locks it down to the point where you can't do ANYTHING and you must do a hard reboot, or it just slows everything down for a minute or so.

The drive could be going bad, or the disk could be damaged.

If possible, you should try to swap it out for a different drive. Then you can determine if its actually your computer/operating system, or just a bad drive

ive had that happen before, and i always end up either putting it in a different drive and using recovery software, or just saying fvck it and throwing the cd away. more or less hit and miss

Thanks for the suggestions. It stopped doing it now, but it has always been a problem, and could start up again any day. I can't tell if it's the drive or drive+windows or meda. Disc is pretty much scratch free, very new. I'm leaning towards drive though.
It's my Samsung DVD/CD burner 🙁 I don't really feel like replacing it, as I just got it last year or so.
To answer V00d00: i would have to reboot if i don't take the disc out of the drive. Doing that stops it.

Interesting. I got a bunch of Warnings from "cdrom". Details say errors reported during paging operation.
