Hi all....haven?t been around in a while.

Have a some questions if you folks would oblige.
I am fixing to upgrade to the Iwill kk266-r MB and either a 1.2 or 1.33 ghz Socket A Cpu.

1. Will this MB handle the 1.33 GHZ CPU?

2. I don?t overclock, so will I need to make any changes other than what the manual directs me to do?

3. I have read several posts here at this board concerning this and almost seems there are 3 or 4 different speeds you have to keep up with. I will be running it with PC133 ram, I suppose. So w/o overclocking, will I be able to run at the FSB of 266 ok, and not mess up the RAM speed or the PCI slot speed? Or is there more I need to learn or know? Or will I be able to set it up ok with the manual?

4. The CPU......I currently have a slot A 800mhz.....I know the 1.2 and 1.33 tbird run hotter, but if I buy the retail box , where the cpu comes with the heat sink and fan from the factory, will that be sufficient to cool the cpu or is other cooling required? I have a supermicro 750 case with 3 fans running, and hopefully that will be sufficient, and I know more cooling is recommended, but is it required?

5. Have a 300 w power supply, will that be enough to run the cpu?

6. What exactly is ddr266/200 FSB and will I be able to run either with this configuration?

7. And recommendations on the type of Ram that is most compatible with it?

8. Also read somewhere around here about needing to put a cooler on the bridge..is that necessary if I am not overclocking, and if so any recommendations, and is there any other components that I will have to put coolers on? Seems if it is required for normal operation the manufacturer would supply it..
I think that is it for now......thanks in advance folks...t

1. Yes. But you may also consider the Asus A7V133... it's currently the "favorite" motherboard (unless you listen to those IWill fanatics.. heh :D)

2. No.

3. Running it with PC133 ram, you will be running chip at a 266 FSB. You are correct in that you will not be altering the ram/pci speed in any way.

4. The retail cooling will work fine for the chip. The fact that you have ectra case fans is even better!

5. Yes, most likely. Is your current 300W PSU AMD approved?

6. DDR ram is the new alternative to PC133 ram. You won't be able to run it unless you get a motherboard that supports it. It is the general consensus that DDR ram is too new to switch over to yet. Also, with PC133 prices so low, theres not much incentive to purchase more expensive DDR ram.

7. Go crucial PC133 CAS2 ram. Start here and look up the ram for your motherboard.

8. I'm not sure what you're talking about - I've not heard of this. Yes, if it requires cooling it will be provided.

All these question answered, it looks like you're going for a no-nosense, by-the-manual retail-route sort of upgrade. Most everybody on here are power users, so we'd recommend going OEM, overclocking, etc. We'd all like to see you be a "power user" and overclock, but we'll help you either way ;)

Thanks so much stultus...you are a great help...I thought about the overclocking with my slot A, but am still a little leery of trying it yet...as you can see with my questions, I am still new to all of this and don't completely understand the little stuff and how the cpu's and so on work....I want to upgrade mine, but right now am going to upgrade my Mom's with what I posted and build a computer for someone at work, neither of which will overclock.....me...I am still debating....chuckling...but many many thanks friend...you guys here as well as the anandtech folks are great and a big help....I have learned much from you and you have all been a big help..t
