So I decided to go for a run today.. and discovered some asshole stole my running shoes. They were pretty new Asics DS Trainers too. This isn't the first time shoes have been stolen from my home, and since I can't be sitting outside the door everyday waiting for the wanker to appear, I thought I could try setting up a system to locate an object's current position. What I'm thinking of is a discreet GPS receiving linked up to a mobile network, at any time I'll be able to send a message to the system requesting current lat and long coordinates..
Price isn't an issue, this isn't about the goods, it's about assholes stealing from me. The setup should be small, doable right? Seeing as how small cell phones and GPS receivings have become. I don't mind DIY if it's not to complicated.
Don't they have similar things for children and dogs? From what I remember though those objects tend to be either short-range RF homing devices, or cell services based on base stations, neither of which is useful data at all since they don't give exact locations.
This device need only be used when the shoes or whatever aren't actually in use, and stored, like in a shoe cabinet. But obviously it has to be small enough so that the guy stealing it doesn't just toss it out..
A CCTV is a good idea, and I might get one, but it's hard to make arrests based on TV footage (unless it's a pizza deliveryman or some sort, in which case I can just find out who delivered the food).. I'd rather have a way to track to bastard down
