Sort contact list by last name on Android

Is there a way to do this? its always annoyed me that the contact list is sorted off first names and not last names

i know you could manually just change the first and last name fields but that would be a major PITA
 
There has been an option for that since I think it came out. 'display options' under menu button when in contacts.
 
yes and i feel dumb

i only ever looked in preferences

however i feel less dumb as the 4 people i work with who also have droids didnt know that option was there either

best response was "oh shit you can do that!?!"
