... but I have to shut down a large part of my crunching farm.
Monday night my heat exchanger (which converts more than 80% of the heat in the computer room to heat the rest of the house) broke down. This means that all the heat from the computer room is wasted - and that I have to run the rest of the house's heating system without the energy from the computers.
My electricity usage more than doubled ... which is quite understandable but economically crazy. [All the computers have a 4 - 8 core CPUs and 6 have 2 GPUs]

The spare parts needed (electronics of course, two electrical motors, two sensors and some small parts) are not standard (the system is custom built) and three parts need to be fabricated ... so I look at least 6 weeks of standstill for my great energy saving system.

Thus I am shutting down 11 of my computers (of course the most energy hungry and the most producing) as soon as the buffers are empty (in 24 - 48 hours) My production will drop dramatically - I expect a drop from approx 900 - 1000K points/day to approx 50K/day.

I'll be back crunching as soon as I can afford it - i.e. when my heating system is repaired and efficiently using the heat of the crunchers to heat the house. I'll be around the forums, doing stats when needed, posting etc, just not crunching nearly as much!

Just position 1-2 units in each room. 😛

Well, and how would the noise affect those sleeping in that room? I was considering doing that for the common rooms but have met some strong opposition ... 😉 ... because our house is usually very quiet - noise management is very good!

Pics? Why? You see only a big metal box and quite a few air ducts ... and a electronic panel ...

Well that just sucks Peter. I'm sorry for you. I hope the repairs happen on a timely basis so you can get back up and running.
Good luck.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully the repairs go as quickly and smoothly as possible.

I hope the repairs go quick. It is interesting that most folks have to shut their machines down during the summer, due to heat issues.

bummer...

...well here's to a speedy recovery for your heat exchanger. we can't wait to have you back at full capacity!

Wow. You really redefine what "green" means for all of us. Hope you get everything back up and working soon.
