I'm watching my roommate fill a big bowl full of ice so she can put it in front of the fan in our apartment because she says it'll make the air cooler. Am I right to be laughing at her?

Does it really work? Or am I just gonna have a big bowl of water on the floor that i have to clean up? I guess we need something to keep from melting...

You need the ice to melt for the energy to transfer......

no

Infact, I had an Idea of taking a few ice cubes, putting them between two racks and tying the racks together with wire. then I'd hang it in front of a fan and let the fan blow (with a bowl underneath the contraption so the water can drip down). Its essentially the same thing as an airconditioner except for teh poor/cheap.

Theres no difference with the ice than without it, its all already half melted anyway. This is stupid. I hate no AC.

Yes there is- the heat to melt the ice didn't appear out of nowhere. The heat energy from the fan blowing air over it melted it, and removed heat from the air, making it colder. Just not cold enough to make a difference.

Oh just go download some porn already. Make sure it's three girls in nothing but their underwear dripping in sweat and then you'll have some idea of what it's like over here. Pervs.

Why don't you have A/C?

Because we just moved into a little apartment in Manhattan and it didnt have central air, and since itll only be a few weeks til it gets cold we didnt wanna invest in an air conditioner, so now im just whining to everyone who'll listen.
