Now that the weather is turning nice and getting warmer, I am getting the urge to hitch up the popup camper and take Mrs. Scoobmaster and baby Brett out camping! There is nothing like getting good friends/family together at a campsite, grilling and eating good food, playing horseshoes or jarts (lawn darts), and then ending the day sitting around a nice big campfire. Ahhhh - can't wait!

If nature had intended for me to sleep on rocks and every root in the ground luxury hotels and room service wouldn't have been invented.LOL,I wanna go camping.. at the Ritz🙂

Camper's are fun. My parents used to have one which we pulled all over the country during the summers. They eventually sold it when we all grew up, and wish at time's they still had it.

ya. me too.

Life w/o the internet....

what were you saying again?

Ah I see you're in the tri-state area. Do you have any favorite campgrounds? I've camped at Beaver Pond near Bear Mountain a few times, and then some place upstate near New Paltz. I usually just bring a small tent tho', nothing major.

Camping is fun. I prefer to do it in a tent though.

My wife and I did tent camp for several years after we first got married. However, one fateful night in DeWolfe Point State Park on Wellsley Island (1000 Islands in NY State) when we endured the night of the "continual everlasting thunderstorm" prompted my wife to decree camping in a tent on the ground was over. We ended up in what became a runoff stream of fast moving water about 3-4 inches deep (right through our tent site). Plus lightning flashes so bright I could see the steaking path through the tent and rainfly THROUGH my closed eyelids! Let's face it - trying to sleep through a heavy thunderstorm that is dropping lightning bolts closer than 1 mile to you when the only thing between you and said storm is a sheet of thin synthetic fabric is not comforting.

A popup is the best compromise - you are off the ground, yet still have fabric walls that can almost all be unzipped to reveal soft mesh screen all the way around. I.E. - you still get that outdoor tent feeling and can stay "high and dry".

🙂

Hey - my neice is going to SUNY New Paltz and wants us to camp in the area this summer so she can join us - any recommendations??

We live in the Southern Tier of NY (Binghamton area) and like going to State Parks. The Finger Lakes area is nice (Cayuga Lake SP) and we also LOVE the 1000 Islands area (Wellsley Island, Alexandrea Bay). I also want to try Letchworth SP this yaer (Grand Canyon of the east).

i love camping, but the kind where me and my buddies carry our 50 lbs packs onto the trail and hike/camp for 7 days.

car camping is also cool imo, that way our wives and significant others can come along too since they don't like the very roughing-it version.

We own a camp about 15 miles from the Canadian border here, go as often as we can.

Fishing up there rules and it is always a great time!
Have our fishing trip with all of us guys coming up in about a moth!

I <3 camping! Some of my best memories are from camping. I would go out almost all summer when I was younger. Haven't done it in a long time, but I still loved it.

i live in the nyc area. my buddies and i usually head to the delaware water gap which is near the nj/pa border i believe. there's a good section of the appalachian trail there but there's also campground type camping in that area with some good rafting/canoeing.

in the new paltz area i believe there is camping in minnewaska state park. you should be able to google some good campgrounds and activities. there's some good rock-climbing there too.

Hmm... I can't remember exactly where I stayed. It *might* have been here., which is like an hour away. We went to Mohonk the next day though, which is in New Paltz, and was a blast.

I just got a fifth wheel . Looking forward to getting hooked up and going. We had a tent that sleeps 10 but it was so big that alot of camp sites did not have room for it. Gotta start making plans!!

Thanks,

I'll have to check Black Bear out sometime when we are down that way!

I love camping; wife and I used to go camping all the time but haven't since the baby was born. Just thinking about it again now that she's two. I've camped here in the Yucatan for weeks at a time because it's so easy: just put your tent up on the beach, hammock between the trees and you're all set. There are a couple of permanent ex-pat campsites here where I party with friends from previous trips; people camp for months and even years at these places.

only with females around... stuff always happens when you're alone in the woods for a few days 😀

btw you had me fooled with the "starcraft"... i was expecting some lan set up in the middle of the woods or something 😱
