Sooo...i'm about to break the 1TB mark on my server

I've only got about 538GB of space (two 250's and an 80)...HDTV recording eats up all my space rather quickly 😛 (when there's anything to record, that is)

hey this is on the side but wtf ever...my thread, lol...

anyways...you think it is better for me to go with DVR from cable co (comcast) for $10/mo inlc. equipment...no chargees or anything..just 10 for service and 80hr DVR (non hd...i donthave HD) or just build my own HTPC? 😀 lol

I have 3 Yottabytes on my computer right now. I am what they call the 'internet'. After NewEgg has another sale I think I'll download the universe and get it over with.

I basically just stick to OTA/local channels myself for the time being, but in your case I'd probably just go for the DVR from the cable company. Unless you can already build a dedicated HTPC by using mostly parts you already have...

My file server has a single 160GB drive in it. Way more than I need currently, it's about half full. All my storage space combined is 256GB. 40GB on this laptop, 6GB on another, 20GB on my third laptop and a 30GB USB2 external laptop drive. Way more storage than I need.

i'm probably going to have to get another hard drive for my file server, i only have about 50 gigs free across all the drives that are in there 🙁

I hope to have 4 of those new 750gb in my next server... probably not gonna do that till next year though.

Space wise I hope to have about 900gb or more in my computer. Most of that will go towards ripping dvds.

i only have 80. it's pretty full. i think i'll get a 250GB from the egg as it is the best
$/GB right now. that'll last me till forever i think. i don't record HD.

my main computer has 1 TB, being a WD 400 SE16 and two 300GB 7200.9s, all SATA.
another computer has a hitachi 250, two 200GB 7200.7s, and a 160GB 7200.7
my dvr computer has a hitachi 250.
i have more 80GB drives than i know what to do with.

I have an 80, 160, and 3 250GB drives. That's 990GB. I rip all of my DVDs to full ISO images, which is what most of that space is used for. I have all my movies down, but I don't have the budget to do my TV series yet. 🙁

I'm planning to get close to 1TB.

Right now:
Raptor 74gb
Seagate 7200.9 250gb
Hitachi 7K250 160gb makes.... 480gb...

I figure I want to throw out that 160gb and use it as a backup drive (put it away), and buy 2 new T7K500s (the 320gb model) or if 7200.10s still hold up when the new Hitachis come, then I'll get 2x 320gb of 7200.10s and then put those in RAID-0.

That makes 320x2 + 250gb + 74gb and that's roughly 960gb... OF course that's just a dream... but I do need new HD space, so it's a pretty realistic dream...

My computer: 160+120+300 = 580 GB
Wife's Computer: 160+160 = 320 GB
HTPC: 160+250 = 410 GB
Laptop #1: 10 GB
Laptop #2: 30 GB
Wife's Laptop: 40 GB
Total: ~1.4 TB

Holy crap.

Will probably buy an external 250 GB drive (or 2) and set up the HTPC as a backup server.

I broke the 1TB mark on my gaming rig a LONG time ago. It's easy when you're making redundant backups of backups of all of your games. I will never have to repurchase a game ever again 😛 It's also easy when you're using your computer to store high-res images from the HST for data reduction.

My computer
250GB SATA Western Digital C: and D:
120GB PATA Western Digital G:
120GB PATA Seagate H:
250GB SATA Seagate I:
160GB SATA Seagate J:
160GB SATA Seagate K:
= 1060GB total space since about November

I also have a 200GB PATA drive in my old Dell, which is my media PC now. I've considered modifying it into a cheapo webserver though.
