I have one model up from this (one where the satellites have a midrange and a tweeter) and its decent for the price, but it still doesn't seem to do well on the highs. A system with midranges only will be even worse. Also, the one I bought (from BestBuy) came with a combo progressive DVD/VCR too, all for under $400.

my parents have these, and for $200 they aren't THAT bad, the Pro Logic II is a nice feature on a unit of that price

At this point I would concentrate on putting a nice system together piece by piece. Maybe get a receiver and a pair of fronts, then add surrounds later.

No S-Video or Component inputs?? :frown: Sorry while I admittedly don't notice much of a difference between component and S-Video (mostly due in part to my Samsung not being enhanced or high definition) I notice a big difference between composite and s-video. If you have to go with a HTIB I'd go with something from Onkyo. Otherwise save up and buy individual parts like a receiver from Harman Kardon, NAD, Onkyo or Denon. Speakers from Paradigm, Klipsch, Definitive Technology, NFT Pro, etc.

People, People.

I live in an apartment. I don't need this awesome 3l337 stuff. The most I could crank it up is like 60 watts
before the neighbors stick nails in my cars tires.

I'm just running a Epson LCD projector with a 70X70 Screen. When I buy my house then I will get the THX stuff :D

I think this system is cool i heard it in person at circuit City. It sounded great.

See here the situation right now I am using a Norcent 1950 :frown:

It will be an improvement. Why all the SONY haters?

Probably because there are so many past Sony customers (like myself) that aren't great admirers of their product. I had a Sony STR-G3 and while it was a decent receiver my Harman Kardon AVR-230 is much better than any Sony product in its price range. I understand your situation I suppose but I notice a difference even at low volume.
