Sony's Free Online for the PS3 = Nickle and Diming consumers

Oy!

Many people were looking forward to Ken Kutaragi's keynote speech to fill in the many blanks, and with only 2 months to go until launch, give details. Unfortunately most of the speech was filled with technical details on GPS, GMS, shopping, banking, networking, and so forth. A few noteworthy things, demos will cost $1, you will be able to download 16bit games (MegaDrive Genesis, and PC Engine TurboGrafx) over the network, and share them with friends. During a short Q&A it was revelaed that the 20gig version will now also feature HDMI, and will receive a price reduction (from 535 to $430) in Japan, as a result of consumer complaints about the high price.

This on top of the new of how they are handling GranTurismo with users having to pay for cars and tracks leaves me :disgust:.

Sony can do pretty much whatever it wants, they'll still sell millions of consoles. They could raise the price even higher (another couple hundred) and they'd still have no problems selling the console.

Sony asking to get it's ass kicked in the US. Japanese will still the things out of blind fanboyism, but I see no reason for anyone in the US to buy it, especially at its current price point.

more bad news... i did say form the beginning people were going to hate the "free" online play.... sony/their partners are going to get their money. And Im betting each game will have its own set of "fees".

lol this is great

i had some fanboi jumping down my neck on another forum shouting about all these games that will be 1080p and how the PS3 is able to handle 1080p gaming supremely.

i dont know many people, if any, that own a 1080p TV, im in the UK so hell i barely know anyone with a 720p TV. everyone i know plays their 360's on SDTV's so the 1080p argument really is pointless

What is sad is that devs seem to be downgrading their games just so they can hit the 1080p marketing point for Sony. Starting comparisons here - notice the differences between MGS last year and now.

Wow that's a huge difference.

But DOAXB2 in 1080P :Q

PC's running high-end cards in SLI still work to push 1080p resolutions.... why even try with the PS3? 720p is still a more than generous resolution
