My Xperia Z3 is about to be delivered (unlocked) and I am curious as to what tips/tweaks (if any) are available. I have read that its not wise to load a custom rom as it can break a lot of Sony's Camera app/functionality and the likes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I don't want to sound like a dick, but I would use it out of the box stock first and see if you really feel like you NEED to change anything. It could be everything you want as it is and you could just induce issues trying to flash anything. From what I understand Sony didn't stray that far away from stock android anyway.

I just got a Z3c, and was coming from iOS, so the first things I did had to do with notifications, and 'fixing' the LED.

Past that, like gorcorps said, just try it out first.

there is a root exploit available (except for the t-mobile version D6616)... can install Xposed and offer a lot of customization for the stock rom

http://www.androidauthority.com/root-sony-xperia-z3-and-z3-compact-582401/

just a note: if you unlock your bootloader (some models cannot unlock bootloader), you will permanently lose a hidden partition that contains DRM keys, proprietary camera libs... there are ways to restore some of the functionality, but not 100%. with root, you can back up this partition before unlocking (and restore it when you restore a stock ROM)

I will definitely try it as is for a while.

What is this "fixing" the LED you mention? Are you referring to the Saturation/brightness and colour levels?

Thanks I will be very careful

Mine is heavily US TMO, so I'm not rooting. But there are themes you can download from the Xperia Store. I have someone's Lolipop theme so I can change the three buttons on bottom. Even works with Nova Launcher.

No, I meant the notification LED that blinks for EVERYTHING, with little customization or settings out of the box.
