Actually, Sony was never marketing the PS3 as a gaming machine, but more as the basis of your Home Entertainment System.

no kidding, any console with a network connection could run that stuff. toasty ps3's running 24/7 bloating your electric bill..oh how enticing. so its 600 dollars + giant electric bill for the ps3 yay

lolz, think about it though, with this kind of marketing for Folding@Home, they might actually find some cures (think how powerful the PS3's CPU is...and how many people will have them).

Thing is, who's going to want their expensive gaming system to be running its processor full-time? Electricity ain't free.

Sony is marketing using this angle because it can possibly allow them to dodge taxes in the EU. It didn't work for the PS2 and it's not going to work for the PS3.
