Sony Wega 32" TV ~$690 shipped

Vpham97: Are you crazy? Cable is not cable. They are definitely not all made the same. You would be lucky to get a good picture with a coat hanger. You could technically use anything that could conduct the signal. But there are things known as insulators and signal loss that have very big impacts. I am not saying that everyone should run out and buy Monster cable, but the idea to use a coat hanger is ridiculous. Also, most DVD players do not come with cables. The cable wje mentioned would work fine. One other thing, if you are spending $$$ on home A/V you shouldn't skimp on the cable because you may lose some of the signal. Then what is the point of having all that nice equipment?

That Sony Citibank offer has a $50 maximum.

I was just using the coat hanger as an extreme example. I'm not using a coat hanger to connect my tv to my dvd's. I've got about 12 of cables stash up. I'm not trying to tell any body to use a coat hanger. You could end up scratching something you shouldnt've scatches.

I have gone through 10 different kind of DVD players. 90% of them come w/ the (red,white,yellow) cable. Some of the cable are just flimsy looking, some are very big.

I don't know how much monster cable for this cost. Last time I try to buy anything monster cable, it was $80. Some of the cable that came w/ the DVD players are small cable. Some of the cable that came w/ the DVD players look heavy
If you've got the money to burn, go for the monster cable if you like.
I've got about 12 of cables stash up. So, I will use what I've already have. I can't afford to buy several monster cable w/ my equipment. My Panasonic DVD player(w/ Dolby Digital &amp; DTS decoder built in) use about 3 of these cable alone for this one unit. I'm looking at about 5-6 of these cable for my home theater setup alone. After spending money on that 36&quot; Wega last night, I can't afford to spent much more for the time being. Look like my TV is going to sit on top of it card board for awhile until I can find some more money to get that $200 stand. If you got the money to spend, why don't you go and buy that Sony Wega XBR, instead of the KV3xFS16.

It seem that the 5% Citipoint can't be combined w/ the $30 off $150(new customer only). If I could, I would use the 5% off since the discount will be higher. I figure btwn. the $30 off &amp; my 2% back from Discover, it wouldn't matter much.

If you can find a consumer review from place like Consumer Report Magazine stating that these Monster Cable are necessary &amp; will help out, please let me know. Don't quote me anything from Monster Cable themself.

I'm just trying to give my own advices here, not trying to pick a fight w/ any body. Any criticism &amp; viewpoint accepted.

LOL coat hanger i guess if you were in a pinch. I have been down that road spending $$$ on top of the line cables thinking i am going to get that little bit better sound and picture. The funny thing is i can't tell any differnce between those and Cheaper Cables (RCA) or the ones that come with your VCR or DVD player, I been their and done it. Freaking out on everything being perfect. All is does is stress me out.

As someone with $450 of cable connecting my stereo system, let me just throw in my $0.02, it's not really worth it. Not for short runs of RCA cable anyway. Get something decent, not total garbage but the extra $ isn't worth it for the super expensive stuff. Eventually you'll reach a point where every little bit helps, but as with most things, you'd be better off saving that $ and using it towards other things instead.

If you have a &quot;regular&quot; system, $10-15 is all you need to spend on 3-6 foot RCA cables.

Hell, after downgrading my gear (having $5000 of stereo gear finally struck me as silly) I now have speaker wires that cost almost as much as my speakers. (and yes they make a difference, but not anywhere near being worth the cost)

Same here, I spent over $3K on Car Audio. The cable to my subwoofer slip off, I didn't even bother to connect it back(it's been 4 months now.) All that heavy bass music is finally getting boring to me. Get a good car speaker &amp; a good cd player and you won't need big subwoofer.

Walmart B&amp;m's electronic department has some big &amp; heavy gauge GOLD connector cable for $15. It's in a blue package, I think they it monster cable on the box also(w/ no connection to Monster Cable company.) I returned mine b/c the connector is too lose and kept on slipping off.

Don't let those sellman at the store fool you. You are going spend a lot of money if you are making everything Monster Cable. Monster Cable has better come down in it prices if they want us to respect them. If you are spending that much money on Monster, get a better Stereo Receiver first, then get some good cable.

That's right, if you've got a decent cable, how much signal do think is being lost in 3 feets.

If you want to get into optical cable
We don't need to spend money on that either. You break too easy anyway. Only go for it if you don't already have regular cable.

I was referring to the component video cable. You are correct, most DVD players come with the RCA cables, but those combine all of the video information into one signal. You then have to rely on your comb filter to seperate the information. I was assuming people would want to use the component cable that sends all of the video information uncombined.

I agree with flot. I think the improvemnt from getting higher quality cable goes down as the price goes up. Like I mentioned before, the cable wje found for $25 will work fine. I just went ahead and bought the Monster Cable before I knew about the other price, but I only paid $65 for the cable and 2 DVDs. (The cable otherwise was $70)\

i think i'll get some radio shack gold tip or walmart gold tip cables, but from what i've heard, video cable is different from audio cable in that it is wound thicker...true? or could i just use audio rca's for the composite inputs?

btw, my little cousin figured out why sony called these tv's WEGA...cuz' they have WE'GA'ood pictures! ehehe sorry, i know it's stupid but so is my cousin.

The SONY CARD site is really kind of misleading. Their wording makes you think you'll get $$$ back. BUT it never says in what form it will be in. BUT it does say a maximum of $50, NOT 10% of any amount.

What I've learned about CABLES...They DO matter, but only in a proportionate amount to how high a quality your components are. With my Denon Receiver and Klipsch Speakers, I COULD hear more BASS when I used a Digital COAX cable made by MONSTER over a cable made by Acoustic Research. This is just my ears talking!

On the video side I can only guess, since I haven't received my WEGA yet. But I think a good guess is that a KILLER cable is needed to get the most out of your WEGA, it is capable of a KILLER quality picture! You want ALL of the signal to get to it from your DVD player!

I just order the top of line Monster(3), Component cables from 800.com. Using all the discounts, I got 2 meters and I preordered ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK. Both delivered for $60!

now, the real question...how do we get this cheaper??

here's a thought:

buy a $167 gift certificate, that means you would get a GC for $33, giving you $200 in GC's, enuff to pay for the stand.

anyone got any ideas on how to drop it lower than $167 tho?

If the signal transfer between components is analog, then I could believe in good cables would help reduce the signal lost. But digital? the components see the signal as one or zero. Any cables would be fine.

crystal: I believe the component video signal is analog. You are correct about digital though, it will either understand it or not. There isn't really a gray area unless the quality is so bad that the '1' is understood to be 'floating'.

FunkmasterT: I bought the 32&quot; Wega Stand at Crutchfield on Wednesday, and I have not heard anything about the GC yet. I have no idea how long you have to wait to get the GC.

So after the 20% (This is a GC not a discount) it comes to $152 for the 32&quot; and $168 for the 36&quot;. It appears the 800.com way is better now with the shipping rebate. I bought it on Wednesday before all of these coupons ($30 off) appeared. I can also use the GC at Crutchfield. (BTW--I will also get 5% credited back by Sony for using my Sony card.)

To everyone considering the O'Sullivan stand. I was really considering the stand and two things made me change my mind. The first (the real deal breaker) is that the stand has a depth of 23&quot;(?) total and it is 'C' shaped. That means the center part is less than that. From the looks of the picture, I'd guess 4-6 inches. The Wega's depth is 23&quot; and I really don't want the TV overhanging at all. I tried to go see the stand at a Best Buy, but they didn't have them at that store. I am also not sure how much of the Wega needs to be on the stand either. Someone also mentioned earlier that the Wega stand has a bracket to secure the TV. The second reason was the stand is 52&quot; wide and my TV is in the corner of the room. The wider the stand, the further away from the corner it gets. This isn't a problem for people who have their TVs along the wall.

It looks like 800.Com is being stripped of their larger TVs. Slowly, the inventory is getting smaller. I was going to pick the 36&quot; JVC as a 2nd choice, but it's gone. They have the Sony 36&quot; WEGAs along with some Sharp and RCA TVs in addition to a few other Sonys. Damn, you peple know how to clear them out.

If anyone is looking for a similar deal (similar, but not as good as 800.Com) on a 32&quot; Sony Wega, then I'll suggest the following price match deal: Head to Radar City and print out the page where the 32&quot; Wega sells for $799. Head to Sears - where I've heard that they price match Internet retailers with the printout. Have them do the price match and purchase the TV with a Sears card - where they are giving another 10% off on TV purchases when using the card on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. This should drop the price down to $720 before tax. Still not a bad deal on this TV.

What do I do? Wait until Wednesday and hope for it to be on sale again or buy the 36&quot; model - OMG, its soo big and heavy, its actually scary :Q.

I said spent the extra ~$300 for the Wega. It's worth it. 25% more space. Who care about the weight, I'm not even planning on moving my older 32&quot; Sony Triniton.

There's a 27 &amp; 32 inches TV reviews(showdown) from Consumer Report in their December 2000 issues.

For bigger Tv's, they had a reviews earlier this year.

The way I see it, you have two choices: 1) Purchase the 32&quot; Wega for approximately $720 as I described @ Sears, or, 2) Purchase the 36&quot; Wega from 800.Com with all of the applicable discounts.

I doubt if you will see any 32&quot; Sony WEGAs in stock @ 800.Com before the end of the year. From my conversations with 800.Com, they may not get any 32&quot; non-PIP WEGAs in because they didn't re-order that item. There is a good possibility that they'll get the 32&quot; PIP (Picture in Picture) WEGAs in, but it could be January before they're in stock. 800.Com has a policy to not sell items that they don't have in stock. I couldn't even get them to put an out-of-stock 32&quot; WEGA in my shopping cart so I could get all the incentives and wait 6 weeks on my TV. Their distribution system is unlike any other (or, should I say their system is like you would have seen in a company 10 years ago or more). 800.Com only ships TVs out of their own warehouse, which is quite unlike many of the other &quot;store fronts&quot; on the Web where the items are drop-shipped from a local warehouse.

There is another &quot;potential&quot; hot deal on a non-WEGA 32&quot; TV. It's a JVC AV32D201 - excellent built-in speaker system, component inputs, etc. Sears sells it.
ProActive Electronics sells it for $545 on their Web site. Bring a print-out into Sears and have them do the price match. Put the purchase on a Sears charge card and get it for $490 (after the 10% discount) and before taxes. This is another very good TV, but it doesn't have the 'truly flat' screen.

You don't need the PIP option. Computers are for multi-tasking, TVs are not.
