Does the AMEX Blue card offer any protection on a purchase like this? I know you can use a one-time-number but will they refund your money if it's a phoney deal?

I don't know. I am a bit tempted aganst my better judgement. But really if They don't send it to me. I call my credit card company and jsut tell them I paid for this think 3 weeks ago and I haven't gotten a thing so its stolen. Tell Paypal too. I think I will atleast get my money back? These guys does have over 1000 Paypal Verified transactions. If they been cheating people Since August, I am sure they would have been canned by paypal by now. I don't know man...

I can confirm that Citibank WILL allow challenges on charges made through Paypal. I have a Platinum Mastercard, used it with my Paypal account to buy an amp. Ironically the guy I bought it from worked at Soundhabit, and if any of you have been following my exploits then you know I have definately not had the best of luck with this company. Anyways, I paid the guy, he never shipped, I ended up challenging the charges with Paypal. Paypal did an investigation and ruled in my favor, unfortunately they didn't refund me my money. I took it up with Citicard next and cc'ed them the Paypal investigation and everything else I had, in the end they ended up clearing the charges. Note YMMV, but I've had luck with Citicard once. Dunno if it's worth the effort or aggravation to go through it again. And note that if the price is too good to be true, then it's probably a scam. I'd stay away from this one.

When I had problems before. And I use Amex almost exclusively. THey have had NO PROBLEMS cntacting these people for me. ANd it gets resolved real fast. One time I returned this thing I bought, the Retailer didn't credit my card for like 40 days. I went online, loged in my Amex account. Pointed to that transaction, typed in a dispute note, Money back in 10 days.

Part of the problem with disputing charges is that if the company DOES take three months, your credit card company will probably tell you that you've gone beyond the time-frame within which you can file your dispute. I wouldn't touch this company with a ten foot pole, but if you plan on doing so ... and you end up needing to file a claim with your credit card, then make sure you know what time-frame you must do so within.

Kiss your $500 away! Think about it- does Sony (or any other manufacturer) even sell 2000+ per day? :disgust:

Even if you get the laptop in the end, it doesn't seem legit... sounds like some sort of black market operation.

$500 bucks for almost any laptop he sells on his site... give me a break! Sounds like he's stealing from someone and pocketing the cash. I'm sure there is no legit wholesaler that would sell em that cheap... Especially a variety of laptops.

I wouldn't be surprised that it takes 3 months to ship because it takes that much time for him to get in some store and sneak away with a brand new laptop everytime he gets an order from his website.

dang, after reading every post in this thread for the past week i think i'm in, here's why:

$500 risk for such reward... you can go to vegas for a weekend and drop way more than that

it's disputable either with your credit card (check first), or paypal if you pay that way

I can definitely wait 3 months for this, shoot, it'll show up one day and i'll wonder where it came from! (bad short term memory)

people apparantly are getting these, albeit months later...(but see above statement)

definitely going for the thinkpad though...i've had nightmare problems supporting the vaios at work

It's like that commercial says...."the biggest risk is not taking one"? something like that anyways

Well, I was looking at the payment on this following it through the checkout and accidently sent them $500. I was looking for the confirm button like on everything else out there. Well, I tried to retract, can't do that. I called Paypal to cancel the transfer, can't do that either. Well in talking to Paypal he told me that if they get enough unanswered complaints from that account they would freeze the money and close the account. He then told me to go ahead and wait it out but when I told him that it takes so long to get the product he told me to file a complaint now. Once Paypal gets the complaint they contact the seller and demand to have the product shipped now or refund the money. So I filed the complaint and no kidding, within 15 minute I had a full refund. These guys are obviously protecting their Paypal account status. But be forewarned, Paypal is only 30 days...

MAN! I wish I had the guts to stick this out but it's hard enough explaining to the wife everytime I buy something, I can imagine her reaction when I throw $500 out the window.

Their paypal account is pretty heavily established and is probably the only way they can get away from the full arm's length of the law. I could only imagine how quickly a regular credit card merchant account would be shut down and investigated if they ran their business like they do through Paypal.

(And no, this is not a rant about Paypal -- lay off)

So... regarding Verby's receipt from PCMall.com. I called PCMall and asked them about GPS computers. I told PCMall all the info here and showed the guy I spoke with the GPS website. He was like, "No way that they are buying them from us at a low enough price to sell it for $500 and still make any money! This is insane." He looked them up, and sure enough, GPS does do a lot of business with PCMall, in fact there were records of a bunch of orders placed on 12-14-01. HOWEVER, there was never enough orders to equal 500 items of anything. So, it appears that their claim that they wait until 500 orders are placed is false. Maybe they just deliver to the people that complain enough and the others get their money taken with no product given?

Also, the CSR from PCMall found it fishy that all of the payment from GPS were wire transfers, meaning that GPS is paying PCMall in cash, on the spot! It sounds to me like they have an inside connection at PCMall and are slipping someone money. We should call GPS, act like we're from PCMall and see if we can get them to tell us who their contact at PCMall is. eg. "Hi, I'm Joe from PCMall.com. I had a couple questions about your order with us on 12-14-01. Some of the information was lost--how many of the Sony laptops, Model #xxxxx, did you order? Okay, and who was the representative here at PCMall that you spoke with? Thanks for you time." Let's do some investigation and find out!

reading back through again... yeah they told me the same story about the local schools and police dept. buying from them. Well, guess who is calling the police dept. first thing tomorrow morning!

Also, the guy at PCMall told me that the base cost for PCMall on this Vaio lappie is like $1400. He said that there is "no possible way" that they could get these for $500, no matter how huge their order is, (even though he confirmed that their orders are not 500+ items, but rather a few here and there).

Let's get em! I am either going to figure out how they're doing this and do it myself, or blackmail them until I get one! :|

i think paypal has a $500 limit either on sending or receiving money as free service, and when you as a merchant receive more than $500 at a time paypal takes a bigger amount from it. so it might explain the mysterious $500 price on all laptops.
