Doesn't look bad at all. Internal storage is a bit on the light side, would strongly prefer 32GBs internal personally, but the sd slot does mitigate that a little. A few sites have claimed front facing speakers, but I'm not really seeing front facing speakers on the pictures, though the spec's do specific stereo speakers at least.

128GB microSDXC just came out, so yeah :D

i just really really really hope they fixed the display issue (bad viewing angles on some Z/Z1 phones)

no reason to upgrade from my nexus 5, but this is tempting

this has to be the most disappointing smartphone generation yet. specs sheets look like "spot the 3 differences" puzzles next to those of the last incarnations.

well, what else is available?

CPU, RAM, Display(ppi) is already peaking (i.e. you don't really need more than current gen)

just more battery, better camera, more storage, different design/materials/waterproof etc

or "innovative" features like oppo N1's swivel camera, Sony's detachable camera lens QX10/QX100 for phones

Am I the only person here who doesn't give two shits about an SD slot? I'd much rather have a sleeker phone. Damn these massive 5+ inch screens

The Z2 is 8.3mm thick, thats pretty damn sleek.

After owning larger screen phones, the Gnex, Razr HD, and HTC1, there's no way I'd want to go back to anything smaller than 4.7.

The Z2 looks pretty awesome though, proper on screen buttons, mostly correct power/volume buttons, dedicated camera button, high end specs.

As far as the sd slot goes, if they're only going to put in a paltry 16GB on board, then they bloody well better put an sd slot in as well. 32GB should really be the minimum for a flagship 2014 phone. Shoot, it should have been the minimum for a 2013 phone as well.

I couldn't care less about microsd but I don't think phones need to get any slimmer either.

The size is nothing to do with sdcards.

The bezeltastic phones that are out are because of the dust/water proofing. (and Sony apparently likes bezels)

I love their hardware, and don't like how long they take to update software. Had there been a Z1 GPe, it would have been perfect.

Hopefully more Sony phones find their way to the Play Store.

Don't worry the Z3 will be announced in a few months. :D

Z1 has actually been out for about a year. It's only because T-Mobile is on a delayed schedule for the Z/Z1 release that it doesn't "seem" that way. US is just lagged behind.

You're thinking about the Xperia Z (released January 2013) as opposed to the Xperia Z1 (released September 2013).

I guess I just meant size wise in general, including width/length. I do agree that a certain thickness is needed for good comfort (which can be used for bigger batteries)

I totally agree that 32 GB needs to be standard for internal storage. But I guess I have small hands which make it harder to use a bigger phone with one hand. They also test the limits of my pockets.

smaller phones, same sized screens, zero bezels and no concessions to internal specs. as far as I'm aware this is what most people want. a 4.7 inch (or smaller) version of the LG G2 basically.

but it looks like we're going to be dependent on apple for that... gag. I'm guessing this mass move to 5.2 inch phones is happening because apple is reputed to deliver 4.7 and 5.5 inch and no one is up for that kind of competition. they'd all rather build terrible phones than compete with apple at making decent ones.

here, this is my idea of a true next generation android phone:

Sony z1 compact would the next closest match from a "reputable" manufacturer

That is an ugly mess. Until all sides of a bezel become really thin, you need to even it out on the top and bottom. That is hideous lol.

I like it myself, it's a bit squarish but I see no reason why the top and bottom needs to be symmetrical.
Ideally they'd put some capacitive buttons on the bottom bezel to reclaim the space but it looks pretty nice overall.
Its a nice example that waterproof doesn't have to mean bezeltastic as well.

But that is bezeltastic. The bottom bezel is ridiculously large.

Phones look much better when they have an even sized bezel on the top and bottom. Especially when used in landscape.

The bottom bezel doesn't look any bigger than on other phones, it seems a strange logic to say that it's too big but would look better with an equal one at the top.

The only time I use my phone in landscape is when watching videos and then I'm looking at the screen.

I honestly think phones don't look better when the bezels are made the same for no good reason.
