I've asked on the subject before, and I know a few people here have the Sony RM-AV3000 remote.

I just got this remote and it has supported all of my devices except my Sony Receiver. I've searched through every programmed code that the remote has and none of them work. Has anyone else had this problem?

Isn't the AV3000 a learning remote. You should be able to feed the Sony Receiver "signal" into the remote. You might lose a few functions or reassign functions, but it should work.

Which receiver, btw?

STR-K740P is the receiver.

I know that the AV3000 can learn remote control functions of devices that are already supported but I don't know how to learn the actual signal, or something.

No, it's IR. You'll have to teach it each individual command. Not hard once you get the hang of it.

BTW, although the learning curve on that remote is high, once you get it programmed it is great. Learn how to prgram the macros and auto ons and you'll be amazed.

RTFM = read the fscking manual

RF = radio frequency

IR = Infra red

I had this same remote once (until the kid's broke it) and I didn't have to teach it each individual command, as long as the command was not in one of the generic setups. I distinctly remember facing the other controllers to the IR of the Sony, then pushing a couple of buttons and Voila!, the Sony now had most of the commands. Now, if I had to set up special functions (thumbs up and down on TIVO, let's say), then yes, those had to be set up individually.

Yes, some componants can be done that way. But I found that for many of mine, I had to teach each one individually. Also, for the bottom custom labels, I did those individually for each as well.

Also, I wanted some TV and tuner commands to work no matter what component I had selected, so I did those as well. Plus I customized many of the buttons.

Yeah, its a great remote. I love how it does EVERYTHING all my remotes do. Although, my big gripe is that its hard to use with one hand.

That, and I like to push buttons without looking. Generally when you get the feel of a remote you can change channels, pull up menus and guides without looking at the remote. With the 3000, the touchscreen forces you to look down to make sure you pressed the right part of the screen.

The manual doesn't address my problem.

It turns out it was a setting on the actual receiver that needed to be changed. It had to be switched from AV2 to AV1.
I found the solution here.

Godspeed, Thank you! Thank you! All of the posters before you were replying just to increase their post count, but you provided the correct information that this person needed. I've owned a Sony ES receiver in the past and sure enough, this was an issue when programming another remote to use with it.

I gotta tell ya, that remote will not learn my NAD CD player remote for anything. I can still use it through the receiver, but not all the functions that remote comes with. Nevertheless, awesome remote

Did you try to teach the remote each individual command? It will learn ANY IR command. So even if it doesn't have a code for your entire CD player, you can train the remote to learn each individual button.

Yes, tried that. It just beeped at me like it didn't know how to learn that one.

That's odd. Which command was it? Was it only one command, or many of them, or all of them?
