I hadn't seen anyone mentioned this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16882105439

It's a Sony touchscreen "Personal Internet Device" which basically looks like a 7" WiFi enabled tablet. It's not really all that impressive except that it's $200 and you can buy it now.

This is the Sony page for it:

I can't find a really good review of it anywhere... just a bunch of guys doing hands-on videos based on a few minutes playing with it at CES.

Lest anyone think that I'm endorsing this or something... I'm not. My iPad is in Osaka, Japan and (slowly) heading my way. For $200, and with a Sony name on it, I'm intrigued though.

Thanks for the review. A $200 alarm clock... hmmm.

If it had a wall-wart style AC->DC converter, you could probably make a portable tablet out of it with a minimal amount of fuss. Of course, going through airport security with a homemade 18650 lithium ion battery pack for your Sony Dash might affect your screening process. :)

For some reason I bought one of these. I haven't received it yet (it's still being shipped) but I guess I just had money to blow or something.

/sigh

So I looked more up on it (and watched the Engadget review), and I think it does have potential. The bottom looks like it could hold a battery, though it'd be some weird one with an ac adapter on it (so probably not). The OS seems a bit laggy because of Flash, which is kind of an "ehh" factor. It would be cool if it came with a battery for the next rendition and you had money to blow however.

From the article:

Comparing the Dash to the iPad is a little more dangerous, since they're not the same kind of product at all, and it doesn't seem like the Dash is even trying to compete with the iPad.

So, no, Sony does not appear to have an iPad.

I got my Dash a couple of days ago and no, it does not compete with the iPad at all. This thing was solely designed as an internet connected clock-type device. As far as I can tell it doesn't even have a web browser. It does have the typical apps such as Slacker, Pandora, Netflix, and since the Dash is basically a souped-up Chumby, you can use all the Chumby apps too... obviously.

I bought this thing because I wanted a fancy alarm clock. Was spending $200 necessary for this? That always depends on the person but as for myself, I'm addicted to technology and gadgets so I had no problem seeing if it was for me.

If anyone has any specific questions, I'll be more than happy to answer them.
