Sony had a $115.6M profit (i.e. net income) this 3Q. That is down from last 3Q by 95%, i.e. it was a about $2B profit before.
This is not an apocalypse, they are still earning a profit, their total revenue is only down 25% which considering this crisis isn't something I'd label as an apocalypse.
Regarding the topic title, people might not understand "net income" and I would recommend you label it is net profit.

We differ in that opinion, especially when considering the price/performance value standpoint.
I will say that Sony's TV's have always been a trademark, especially at the high-end. Anything but those have been shit for the last 15 years. All of the rest of their CE is more or less garbage, from their portable electronics to their stereo equipment.

Start by putting rootkits on cds. Damage hardware and OSes, open customers computers to to new attack vulnerabilities and say nothing. Follow by "So what! Our customers don't even know what rootkits are."
Tells customers that they don't care if kids ruin DVDs, they would much rather you bought new ones than have the right to back up the ones you buy.
Their words and deeds have been consistently tantamount to saying that they don't really give a rat's ass about their customers.

They make great TVs.
But they also use their past reputation for quality to charge premium prices for complete shit. After $2000 worth of dead Sony products that died prematurely due to what I found to be widespread issues caused by flawed designs, I gave up on buying Sony products aside from their game consoles. I only buy their game consoles because I can't get a PS3 or a PSP from any other company.

Columbia-Tristar (Sony Pictures) makes some pretty good movies. Sony Music (Columbia Records) has many good artists in their portfolio. Their Trinitron CRTs are regarded as top notch. Their cameras and camcorders would be good if they did not try to shove their proprietary memory standards down our throats. Some of their receivers that I have seen are good as well.
Monsanto (regarded by many to be one of the most evil companies in the world) makes great products as well.
That was SonyBMG, Sony did not fully control that company at that time.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves with the Kuro now, when a lot of non-kuro plasmas have better color accuracy and PQ than any LCD. The Kuro is the top of the line in HDTV's for the average consumer. Panny plasmas are about 1 gen behind the current Kuros, and they will be the level of Sony/Sammy LCD's to compare with.
Sony makes a great LCD without question. Unfortunately Samsung makes great LCD panels as well, and you don't pay for the Sony name. Sony has gotten better it seems, but you still usually pay 5-10% more for a Sony product.
