Sony Reader $50 with card application

anyone know if you can still get the $150 off on another product as well as mentioned in the other thread?

or does it get applied to this purchase?

I got the card in, but cant seem to figure out how to get the discount. At sonystyle if I add the reader and add the card as payment it still shows the full price (even as far as review order)? Do i need to enter a code or is this deal dead?

You should be buying it from sonyrewards.com, not sonystyle.com. When you click "Sign Up" from the Sony rewards site, you'll get a prompt saying something about Sony card members being able to register faster. Click yes and enter your card info.

For those that own this... does anyone know how to read ".LIT" files on this unit? Inquiring minds want to know.

I imagine they need to go through some kind of conversion process so that they can be turned into an LRF file.

Thanks!

how long does it normally take to ship. the wait is driving me crazy.

I ordered mine 3 weeks ago yesterday. Still not shipped 🙁

I ordered on 08/13 and just got a shipping notice this morning. I can't wait to get it!

I'm hoping that it somehow gets here by Friday, as I am going to Florida for a week starting on Sunday.

My 2nd one has now shipped out for $60... but it appears they have fixed it so you can't get anymore at the $60 price. $160 is the price now.

Grandmoph, mine shipped from Kansas City, MO by UPS ground... so you could go to the UPS website and see how long ground shipping takes from there to where you are.

if you want to get a 2nd one at a discounted price; order the first and then put an item onto your wishlist (will give you 50 pts)

you get 50 points; when you add the 2nd reader, it is discounted to 5999

you get two readers for $59.49 -- perfect for my mom and dad

the new sony connect offer is 100 classics free

You'll have to try it to see if it's discounted for you. The first time I tried this it worked and was discounted to 5999 points. After the 2nd one shipped, I filled out their questionnaire and got another 50 points, then tried to add it to the cart and it is still 16000 points. But still that's $100 less than they're selling for on eBay.

I've never had to give my SSN in a credit card app before, and I won't now. Thats the deal killer for me.

Got mine, been using it for a few days. The major issue I saw with the display unit was aparently caused by an old bios/flash version. The one I have has only very light ghosting, and it is the oposite color (ghosting lighter than the background). The screen actualy flashes to reverse (black text goes white, white goes black) And nearly eliminates the ghosting.

Also, the resolution is awesome. viewing pics (though in greyscale) is really good. nothing like good old greyscale porn. 😛

If you read some manga (like I do) it is easier to read as a picture than as a PDF. But it can be hard to read if not optimized for the reader.

I will do a more in depth review at some point after I read 20 or 30 books with it.

I've never in my life seen a credit card application that didn't need a SSN (I'm 34, have owned a house, rented at least 15 different places, have several credit cards, and have had several car loans... so I've filled out a few credit apps). How else are they going to know it's you.

I'd like to know what credit card companies don't need a SSN for credit approval.

Employment history, credit history...

You know what, you're right. I am a 20 year old who has never had a credit card before, never owned or rented any place, and I am a big lier. I definitely have never filled out a credit app before. -> Were you hinting that I am lying? What on earth would motivate me to make a post contributing those thoughts if they weren't real?

First off, maybe relax... don't be so paranoid that I'm calling you a liar and the sony credit app is a clever ploy to get your uber-secret SSN to sell to illegal aliens.

Maybe I should state that I live in the US in case that isn't clear, but everywhere I've been, employment history and credit history are based on your SSN, not your name. That's kinda the whole point... many people have the same name, SSN's are unique.

I just find it hard to believe anyone would give credit without a SSN. I didn't say you're lying, I've just never heard of it.

I pointed out my experiences just to say that I do have a credit history... and it's tied to my SSN.

I'm not talking about Pop's Furniture store credit around the corner, real credit from a real bank IN MY EXPERIENCE is always tied to your SSN. That's all I'm saying... IN MY EXPERIENCE. Enlighten me if I'm mistaken, don't assume you're being attacked. Heck, just to get a bank checking or savings account I've always had to give my SSN. Am I doing something wrong?

Am I the only one who gives out their SSN for credit apps?

i've always had to give my ssn whether its to get card, open an account, apply for collge, rent my apartment, or fill out employment info.
ps i'm 19 so my experience is a little limited.

Ok, I got a call from sonyrewards today saying that I would either have to pay the $160 price on the 2nd unit they sent out, or I could send it back. I don't think this is legal is it? If I've already received a product and paid a price for it, they can't later on find a mistake and say you should have paid $XX for it, therefore you owe us the difference.
I can understand if it hasn't shipped out yet, but if I've already received it... can they do that?

No they can't. If you're received it, paid for it, they cannot ask you for more money after the fact. HP tried this a few years ago with monitors (I think) that they mistakenly sent out at a particular good price. When they realized their mistake, they sent everyone emails or letters to either send back the monitors back to HP or allow HP to charge the customers CCs for the extra money. Needless to say that backfired on them. It's not legal to do what they are triyng to do. I take that back, It's legal to try but you are under no obligation to send the item back nor pay extra money for it.
